Customer Service Clerk FT

Purpose of the Role

The Customer Service Clerk creates a welcoming and positive experience for all shoppers by providing efficient checkout, clear communication, and friendly service. This role supports Weaver Street Market’s mission by ensuring accurate transactions, maintaining clean and organized spaces, and fostering a sense of community. Customer Service Clerks embody our co-op’s values of cooperation, community, and shared success.

A. Primary Duties of the Role

• Provide excellent customer service by greeting customers, answering questions, and resolving concerns with professionalism.
• Operate the register efficiently and accurately. Memorize common PLUs and follow all cash handling policies and procedures.
• Bag groceries promptly and correctly. Assist coworkers with bagging and customer support as needed.
• Maintain a clean and orderly register area. 
• Bus dishes, take out trash and recycling, and help keep the café area tidy.
• Retrieve carts from the parking lot and support customer carry-outs as needed.
• Monitor the co-op’s online ordering system. Pick orders accurately, ensure items are packed with care, and deliver completed orders to customers' vehicles during pickup.
• Stay familiar with current produce items and sales; note and report discrepancies in PLUs or pricing.
• Use Microsoft Teams to check department messages, store/unit updates, and co-op-wide news. Respond and post as needed to support clear and respectful communication among all employees.
• Follow opening and closing procedures, including shift checklists and accurate till management.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support all departments and Weaver Street Market as a whole.

Required Qualifications and Certifications

• A working knowledge of English is required for this customer-facing role
• 18+ years of age

C. Preferred Experience and Knowledge

• Prior cashiering or customer service experience
• Experience handling money and working in a fast-paced retail setting
• Familiarity with Microsoft Teams and/or Paylocity applications
• High school diploma or equivalent work experience

D. Physical Requirements

• Standing and walking for long periods
• Lifting grocery items, usually up to 20 pounds frequently; heavier items occasionally
• Bending and twisting for bagging, stocking, and cleaning tasks
• Pushing and pulling carts and carrying grocery bags
• Typing and touchscreen use for register operation
• Fine motor skills for counting money and using register interface
• Outdoor work retrieving carts and assisting customers
• Use of stairs (Southern Village and Raleigh stores)
