Ready to Take Your Customer Service Experience Somewhere New?

If you're great on the phone, enjoy helping people, and know how to keep a conversation positive and productive, your experience could be a great fit for the automotive industry.

Scranton Chevrolet of Norwich is hiring now for a friendly, dependable, and motivated Service Business Development Representative (Service BDC) to join our team in Norwich, CT.

This is an especially great opportunity for someone coming from a call center, customer service, appointment scheduling, insurance, healthcare, banking, telecommunications, hospitality, or other customer-focused environment.

No automotive experience? No problem.

If you already know how to communicate with customers, stay organized, navigate computer systems, and provide excellent service, you have many of the skills we're looking for.

We'll teach you the automotive side.

Family-Owned & Operated Since 1952

For more than 70 years, the Scranton family has been serving Connecticut drivers.

Scranton Chevrolet of Norwich combines the stability and opportunities of an established automotive organization with the personal environment of a family-owned business.

We're proud of our history, but we're equally focused on the future—and we're looking for great people who want to grow with us.

Here, you're joining a team—not becoming another number.

What Is a Service BDC Representative?

Think of this position as the connection between our customers and our Service Department.

When a customer needs an oil change, scheduled maintenance, a repair, recall work, or another service for their vehicle, you'll help make the process easy.

You'll answer questions, schedule appointments, send reminders, follow up with customers, and make sure our Service Advisors have the information they need before the customer arrives.

You don't repair the cars. You don't need to be a mechanic. And you aren't selling vehicles.

Your job is to provide a great customer experience and help keep our Service Department connected with the people we serve.

What You'll Do

Your day will include a combination of incoming customer conversations, appointment scheduling, follow-up, and communication with our Service team.

You'll:

  • Answer incoming service calls in a friendly and professional manner

  • Help customers schedule maintenance and repair appointments

  • Communicate with customers by phone, text, and email

  • Confirm upcoming service appointments

  • Make outbound calls to customers who may be due or overdue for scheduled maintenance

  • Follow up with customers who missed or need to reschedule an appointment

  • Help customers schedule manufacturer recall and service-related appointments

  • Notify and schedule customers when appropriate for special-order parts

  • Assist with basic questions about appointments and the service process

  • Update customer contact information and appointment notes

  • Keep accurate records of customer conversations and follow-up

  • Communicate important appointment information to our Service Advisors

  • Stay informed about current service promotions and customer programs

  • Follow up with customers to help maintain long-term relationships

  • Work toward individual and team appointment and customer-service goals

Coming From a Call Center? Your Experience Matters Here.

If you've worked in a traditional call-center or customer-service environment, you've already developed skills that can translate extremely well into this position.

You know how to:

  • Talk comfortably with different types of people

  • Listen and understand what a customer actually needs

  • Handle a steady volume of incoming and outgoing calls

  • Navigate computer systems while talking with customers

  • Document conversations accurately

  • Work from customer lists and follow-up schedules

  • Keep conversations positive when a customer is frustrated

  • Meet performance and productivity expectations

  • Stay organized in a fast-moving environment

  • Follow through

Those are exactly the types of skills we're looking for.

Here, you'll use those skills to help local customers maintain vehicles they depend on every day while becoming part of an established, family-owned Connecticut business.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has previous customer service experience

  • Is comfortable spending a significant part of the day communicating with customers by phone

  • Has a friendly, confident, and professional phone presence

  • Enjoys helping people solve problems

  • Communicates well by phone, text, and email

  • Is comfortable using computers and learning new technology

  • Can manage multiple conversations and follow-up tasks

  • Pays attention to details

  • Is dependable and punctual

  • Follows through on commitments

  • Can stay positive in a fast-paced environment

  • Is comfortable working toward goals

  • Enjoys being part of a team

  • Is coachable and willing to learn

Automotive experience is NOT required.

Previous experience in call centers, customer service, appointment scheduling, insurance, healthcare, banking, telecommunications, hospitality, reception, retail, inside sales, or other customer-facing environments can be an excellent fit.

What Does Success Look Like?

We keep it simple:

Take care of customers. Schedule appointments. Follow up. Stay organized. Help the Service Department succeed.

You don't need to know everything about cars when you start.

We'll teach you our dealership systems, service processes, terminology, and approach to customer communication.

What we're looking for from you is something harder to teach: a positive attitude, dependability, strong communication skills, and a genuine desire to help people.

Training & Support

We'll provide training and ongoing support to help you become comfortable and confident in the position, including:

  • Customer communication

  • Service appointment scheduling

  • Dealership systems and technology

  • CRM and customer management systems

  • Automotive service basics

  • Maintenance terminology

  • Manufacturer recalls and service campaigns

  • Customer follow-up

  • Phone, text, and email communication

  • Working effectively with Service Advisors

  • Ongoing coaching and professional development
