Job Summary:
The CVOR Scrub Tech is responsible for providing direct support to the surgical team during cardiovascular procedures by preparing the operating room, arranging surgical instruments and supplies, and maintaining a sterile field. This role plays a critical part in ensuring safe, effective, and high-quality cardiovascular surgical care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain the operating room for cardiovascular surgical procedures.
- Set up surgical instruments, sterile drapes, and other necessary equipment.
- Assist surgeons during cardiovascular surgeries by passing instruments and supplies.
- Maintain a sterile field and follow strict aseptic techniques at all times.
- Handle specimens properly and ensure accurate labeling.
- Count sponges, needles, and instruments before and after procedures with the circulating nurse.
- Ensure equipment is functioning properly before and during surgery.
- Assist with patient positioning and draping under the supervision of the RN or surgeon.
- Clean and restock operating room after surgery.
- Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure optimal patient outcomes and safety.
- Adhere to hospital policies, OSHA, and infection control guidelines.
Qualifications:
Education: Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program.
Certification: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Experience: 1–2 years of experience as a scrub tech, preferably in cardiovascular or thoracic surgery.
Knowledge: Strong understanding of cardiovascular anatomy, surgical instruments, and sterile techniques.
