Position Overview

The Day Center Manager plays a vital role in creating a safe, welcoming environment for clients while overseeing the daily operations of our day center. This position is responsible for leading and supporting an established team in the successful execution of their assigned duties, ensuring smooth, consistent service delivery. The role includes managing staff and volunteers, coordinating with community partners, and directly supporting clients across a continuum of care that responds to a wide range of needs. The ideal candidate brings strong operational leadership, collaborative skills, and a genuine commitment to serving vulnerable populations.

Key Responsibilities

Operations Management

  • Oversee daily operations of the day center in accordance with TFH guidelines and policies
  • Ensure facilities are maintained to high standards of cleanliness and safety, including kitchen, clothing room, dining areas, living spaces, and restrooms
  • Manage "outside watch" protocols for client safety and security
  • Manage onsite onsite security services provided by a third-party vendor, overseeing daily operations, performance standards, and coordination to ensure a safe and secure environment
  • Strong data, tracking, and budgeting skills, using metrics to monitor performance, forecast costs, and manage budgets effectively while driving informed decisions
  • Provide direct oversight of daily shelter activities, addressing real-time issues related to client needs, space usage, supplies, and staff coverage
  • Monitor client flow, capacity, and daily routines (meals, intakes, departures), stepping in as needed to maintain order, safety, and smooth operations

Client Services & Support 

  • Deliver compassionate, culturally sensitive services to clients
  • Lead crisis response during incidents involving client safety, behavioral escalation, facility issues, or community concerns
  • Support client well-being across multiple dimensions of health and wellness
  • Share personal experiences with mental health and recovery when appropriate and beneficial
  • Respond promptly to client needs and requests for assistance
  • Document incidents appropriately and communicate critical issues to leadership on a timely manner

Staff Support 

  • Lead, supervise, and support an established team, ensuring all staff effectively carry out their assigned roles and responsibilities
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and accountable team culture aligned with the organization’s mission and values
  • Oversee staff scheduling, coverage, and workflow to ensure consistent, high-quality day center operations
  • Provide ongoing coaching, training, and performance feedback to support staff development and success
  • Conduct regular team meetings and individual check-ins to promote clear communication and collaboration
  • Ensure staff follow organizational policies, safety protocols, and best practices when working with clients
  • Address staff concerns, conflicts, and performance issues in a timely, professional, and solutions-focused manner
  • Model trauma-informed, client-centered practices while supporting staff in meeting the varying needs of clients across a continuum of care

Partnership & Collaboration

  • Collaborate effectively with community partners 
  • Coordinate with Executive Leadership on major decisions and strategic initiatives
  • Maintain positive relationships with referring organizations and stakeholders
  • Serve as key relationship steward with local churches, service providers, and community partners
  • Coordinate referrals, collaborative efforts, and joint initiatives with community partners
  • Identify partnership opportunities that strengthen service delivery and mission alignment

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • At least 5 years of related experience in shelter operations, social services, or community outreach.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid driver license

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods
  • Manual dexterity for handling materials and equipment
  • Capability to lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly
  • Vision adequate for detailed work with ability to adjust focus
  • Physical stamina for climbing, balancing, and reaching as needed

Work Environment

  • Indoor community center setting with moderate noise levels
  • Regular interaction with diverse client population and volunteers
  • Fast-paced environment requiring flexibility and multitasking
