DC Yard Truck Driver (Full-Time) - Rome, NY

The Distribution Center Yard Truck Driver safely moves and positions trailers within the Distribution Center yard, maintains accurate trailer records, and supports the efficient operation of dock and yard activities. When not operating the yard truck, this position may assist with yard maintenance, snow removal, and Distribution Center functions such as receiving, splitting, picking, loading, and shipping.

Pay Range: $20.00–$23.00 per hour, based on experience.

• Reports To: Distribution Center Shipping department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Move and reposition trailers throughout the Distribution Center trailer yard.


• Maintain yard cleanliness and safety.


• Load and unload trailers, including flatbed trailers.


• Maintain proper trailer weight distribution while maximizing available trailer cube and space.


• Perform piece counts to verify accuracy.


• Scan merchandise into inventory using designated scanning equipment.


• Accurately associate products and pallets with the appropriate truck identification numbers.


• Print price tags and price merchandise as required.


• Break down merchandise into smaller quantities for shipment to retail locations.


• Assist with inbound and outbound floor-loaded shipments.


• Ensure accurate allocation of quantities.


• Submit packing slips and freight bills as required.


• Cross-check quantities against packing slips and document discrepancies as needed.


• Load merchandise onto the appropriate pallets and apply shrink wrap when necessary.


• Properly secure shipments to prevent product and trailer damage.


• Complete daily tractor and trailer inspections.


• Maintain a logbook when applicable.


• Maintain accurate records of inbound and outbound trailers.


• Monitor tractor condition and report or recommend required maintenance.


• Comply with random company testing requirements.


• Follow safe work practices and always maintain a safety-first mindset.

Other Duties

• Perform other duties as assigned to support facility operations and meet operational deadlines.


• Travel to other facilities for operational assistance or training, as required.

Physical and Mental Requirements

• Demonstrate proficiency maneuvering trailers and navigating the trailer yard.


• Demonstrate the computer proficiency necessary to perform assigned duties.


• Demonstrate the ability to operate a forklift.


• Frequently lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.


• Stand or sit for extended periods.


• Frequently bend and twist while performing job duties.

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications

• Preferred: Two years of prior CDL driving or lot-duty experience.


• Required: Prior forklift operating experience.


• Preferred: High school diploma or GED.


• Preferred: Prior warehouse experience.


• Preferred: One year of prior shipping and receiving experience.

Work Environment and Conditions

• Work is performed in a Distribution Center environment.


• Regular exposure to both cold and warm dock conditions is expected.
