Job Description - Dean of Culture - Elementary

As a leader in providing high quality education for students who need us most, KIPP Memphis is a network of open enrollment, tuition-free, college preparatory public charter schools. KIPP Memphis is part of the Knowledge Is Power Program (KIPP) network of high performing schools. KIPP’s network spans more than 200 schools across the US and is known for having high expectations, focusing on results, and ensuring students go to and through college. 

Founded in 2002, KIPP Memphis serves elementary, middle, and high school students in North Memphis.  The KIPP Memphis team and family serves as a model of excellence and collaborates with other community organizations to raise the overall quality of education in Memphis. The mission of KIPP Memphis is to create joyful, academically excellent schools that prepare students with the skills and confidence to pursue the paths they choose - college, career, and beyond - so they can lead fulfilling lives and build a more just world.

Role Overview:

Roles and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Work as part of the culture team to develop a positive, structured, achievement-oriented, and nurturing school culture.
  2. Consistently and effectively execute and reinforce school-wide culture systems (i.e., entry, dismissal, transition, incentive systems, etc.)
  3. Proactively and positively engage with parents throughout the school year and when there are specific student behavioral concerns.
  4. Be highly present and visible during school hours, relentlessly ensuring the school has a strong school culture.
  5. Maintain accurate and thorough student culture data and documentation.
  6. Support teachers to improve their instructional practice, especially as it relates to issues of discipline, relationships with students, and school culture.
  7. Support execution of individual behavior plans and other supports for students with significant behavior needs (in conjunction with the Social Worker and AP of Special Education).
  8. Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Principal or School Leader

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Required) or Associate's degree with 2 years of experience or 6 years of experience 
  • Commitment to the design and development of the school (Required) 
  • At least two years of teaching experiences (Required)
  • Proficient in MS Office, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (Required)
  • A passion for being part of team-oriented, mission-driven school culture (Required)
  • Flexible and able to multi-task within an ambiguous, fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions (Required)
  • Must uphold the school’s core values of leadership, love, integrity, respect, and responsibility (Required)
  • Demonstrated success in raising the achievement levels of traditionally under-served students (Required)
  • At least three years’ experience working with large groups of students (Strongly preferred)
  • Experience teaching in an urban, high-need environment and in public schools (Preferred)

Other Qualifications:

Satisfactory criminal records check, pre-hire and annually thereafter, if applicable. Must be eligible to work in the United States and provide work authorization. Occasional travel to KIPP Memphis campuses may be required.

Salary for this position is competitive and depends on prior experience, degree attainment, and credentials. A competitive benefits package will also be offered.
