About Rethos

Rethos is a Minnesota-based nonprofit organization working to promote community vitality through the reuse of old buildings and the stewardship of historic places. Through education, advocacy, real estate, and community programs, Rethos helps people connect with and reinvest in the places that matter to them.

Rethos is seeking an independent contractor to support a Minnesota Pollution Control Agency grant-funded project to create an online Deconstruction + Salvage School as continuing education for tradespeople, construction professionals, and related stakeholders.

Project Overview

The Deconstruction + Salvage School will be an online training program designed to support practical learning in deconstruction, salvage, building material reuse, and related preservation and sustainability practices. The curriculum will include 16 online modules, including 10 core modules and 6 additional modules.

Rethos seeks a part-time contractor coordinator to help organize, upload, test, and administer key components of the project. This role will work in coordination with Rethos staff, including the Continuing Education Manager, and will support project execution across several phases from August 2026 through June 2027.

The scope includes online platform research and testing, curriculum formatting and uploading, beta testing coordination, cohort administration, stakeholder communication, contact-list development, evaluation support, and light administrative updates related to deconstruction ecosystem mapping. The original project materials estimate approximately 20 hours per week overall, with some phases requiring fewer or more hours depending on project needs.

Scope of Services

The selected contractor will provide coordination and administrative support in the following areas.

Online Training Platform Support

The contractor will assist Rethos in researching, testing, and preparing an online training platform for the Deconstruction + Salvage School.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting selection and setup of the preferred platform.

  • Formatting curriculum materials for upload.

  • Uploading videos, graphics, and related materials to each of the 16 modules.

  • Supporting updates to modules after additional site visits or content revisions.

Anticipated timeline: August 2026–March 2027

Curriculum Beta Testing and Final Edit Support

The contractor will help coordinate beta testing and curriculum review with project stakeholders.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Sending near-final modules to stakeholder reviewers.

  • Tracking and compiling feedback for Rethos staff.

  • Assisting with assembly of glossary and resource lists.

  • Supporting citation tracking and final curriculum clean-up.

  • Helping ensure modules are organized, accessible, and ready for launch.

Anticipated timeline: August 2026–March 2027

Deconstruction + Salvage School Cohort Administration

The contractor will support administrative needs for the pilot cohort.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Processing cohort applications.

  • Supporting review of scholarship applications.

  • Coordinating payment information from outside scholarship partners.

  • Communicating acceptance status to applicants.

  • Serving as a contact for approximately 20 pilot cohort participants.

  • Purchasing or coordinating materials for cohort members and trainers.

  • Developing and maintaining a contact list for future outreach, including county contacts, community and technical colleges, and prospective participant pipelines.

  • Sending course evaluations and compiling results.

Anticipated timeline: January–June 2027, with application-related work beginning earlier as needed

Deconstruction Ecosystem Mapping Support

The contractor may assist with light administrative updates to Rethos’s deconstruction ecosystem mapping work.

Responsibilities may include:

  • General maintenance of existing information.

  • Updating information based on feedback from MPCA or project partners.

  • Using slower project periods to support mapping and contact-list updates.

Anticipated timeline: As needed throughout the contract period
