Job Description - Defense Senior Test / Data Engineer
The Test /Data Engineer is the central point for engineering activity through the design and manufacture of screw pumps made to customer or internal specifications. In the defense organization, the Test /Data engineer is presented with unique operational requirements which ultimately ensure that US service men and women return from duty safely. This is accomplished by leveraging your technical skills to meet the technical challenges presented by our customers and their unique applications.
As a Test /Data Engineer, you will collaborate with internal customers, sales teams, program manager, Quality, and manufacturing team members. You will efficiently utilize computer-aided engineering (CAE) systems, material requirements planning (MRP) systems, Engineering standards, and other analysis tools to determine appropriate testing methods, provide data trends for pump performance, and ultimately be able to develop predictive tools for pump performance based on manufacturing variability. You will also work closely with pump testing personnel, quality engineers, and design engineers to assess factory acceptance testing data, develop trends for similar pump types, and make data driven decisions on process improvements.
Principal Activities
Working on collection and databasing test data
Creating custom viewers to analyze and interpret data
Automate plots for report generation
Create a linear regression model in excel to predict pump performance based on measurements.
Generate test report for customer and document non-conformances
Help QC log important measurement for customer reporting and make it easily accessible for future needs.
Work in a multi-disciplinary team supporting the design, manufacturing, and testing of pumps
Collect, organize, and interpret Coordinate Measurement Machine (CMM) and test data through visualizations leveraging ‘dashboards’ for stakeholders to use.
Identify patterns and trends to make strategic decisions regarding manufacturing and test data
Develop and maintain data architectures using historical data as well as recommendations for new/future data collection and organization
Improve and automate tasks to ensure consistent quality and improve processing time
Generate Reports with data visualization for internal and external customers
Supports the development of Engineering standards, design specifications, analysis methods, design verification and product validation methods, development plans and structures necessary for translating engineering knowledge into new product designs
Initiates and contributes to the creation of installation and operation instructions, care and maintenance instructions, assembly, visual aids and other customer facing documentation.
Looks for ways to improve robustness of designs to reduce lead times and/or extend service life of units.
Strives to grow their technical expertise in the understanding and application of new methods, technological developments, advanced concepts, principles, and methods, as assigned. When needed develops or improves analysis methods, tools and programs.
Interprets, organizes, executes and coordinates the timely completion of assignments.
Performs Pre- and Post-sale customer support as required.
Support stream lining of Engineering Calculations and reporting.
Requirements
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge Skills & Abilities
Understands drawing tolerance stack-ups and drives the use and application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Working knowledge of Solid Edge, Solid Works, or equivalent
Working knowledge of IFS (MRP/ERP system) or equivalent.
Ability to work on cross-functional teams in the context of complex technical projects.
Ability to serve as a project or team leader when required by the task or situation, while modelling appropriate positive influence and consensus building skills.
Ability to create and present design, testing and other technical reports.
Working knowledge of Lean as applied to both Engineering and Manufacturing processes including Six Sigma, Kaizen, DFMEA, PPAP, VA/VE PFMEA
Knowledge of foundry, machine shop and fabrication practices
Ability to program with in MS Office tools and or stand alone code is desirable.
Programming Experience (Python, Matlab, or similar)
MS products (Expert in Excel)
Statistical Analysis
Ability to travel (10% Domestic & International).
Education & Experience
BS in Mechanical Engineering, .
1-5 years of Engineering experience on industrial equipment
Data Science experience is desired.
Additional criteria for Senior Engineer
Ability to create and manage large and complex databases through SQL or similar means.
Demonstrated ability to work on complex/technical projects
Demonstrated ability to develop innovative solutions to problems as an individual and as part of a team
