Position Summary:
The Front of House (FOH) Assistant Manager is key to ensuring exceptional customer service and smooth operations in the Prepared Foods Department. This role focuses heavily on training and developing new staff, ensuring they meet Co-op standards for customer service, and maintaining a welcoming and efficient environment. The FOH Assistant Manager will oversee daily FOH operations, including customer interactions, ensuring staff are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge. Additionally, this individual will support the Prepared Foods Manager and BOH Assistant Manager in fostering a team-oriented atmosphere and ensuring the highest levels of cleanliness, safety, and quality service.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Supervision and Customer Service:
Lead and supervise the FOH staff to ensure excellent customer service, maintaining a welcoming, friendly, and efficient environment.
Act as a point of contact for staff and customers to address concerns, questions, or special requests promptly and professionally.
Foster a team-oriented atmosphere, encouraging communication and collaboration across departments to ensure high-quality service.
Model exceptional customer service and coach team members to follow the Co-op’s customer service standards.
Support and guide staff in day-to-day operations, including providing direction on service expectations and resolving any customer issues.
Staff Training and Development:
Assist in the development and implementation of FOH training programs, ensuring staff is well-trained in product knowledge, customer service techniques, and food safety regulations.
Provide ongoing training, feedback, and support to FOH team members, helping them grow professionally.
Ensure all FOH staff maintain up-to-date Food Worker Cards and meet food safety training requirements.
Conduct performance evaluations in collaboration with the Prepared Foods Manager, identifying areas for improvement and offering developmental support.
Operations and Efficiency:
Ensure smooth and efficient operation of the FOH, including food display, customer ordering, and product availability.
Assist in maintaining cleanliness and organization of FOH work areas, including dining areas and customer-facing surfaces, following food safety and sanitation guidelines.
Monitor stock levels of FOH supplies and work with the Prepared Foods Manager to ensure necessary items are replenished.
Manage customer queues and order flow, ensuring customers receive timely and accurate service.
Track and report any operational issues or challenges to the Prepared Foods Manager and assist in finding solutions.
Collaboration with BOH and Other Teams:
Work closely with the Back of House (BOH) team to ensure proper communication between FOH and BOH, ensuring food orders are accurate and delivered promptly.
Collaborate with other department managers and the Prepared Foods Manager to align team efforts with organizational goals.
Assist in cross-training with other departments, including Bakery and Cordata locations, to ensure consistency and operational flexibility.
Health and Safety Compliance:
Ensure that all FOH staff follow health, safety, and sanitation regulations, including food safety standards.
Oversee the daily cleaning and sanitizing routines of FOH spaces, ensuring adherence to health department guidelines.
Monitor and enforce safety practices to ensure a safe working environment for all team members and customers.
Inventory and Cost Control:
Assist in managing FOH inventory, tracking product usage, and helping to minimize waste.
Work with the Prepared Foods Manager to monitor and control FOH expenses, including labor and supplies.
Participate in inventory audits and assist in ordering and receiving supplies.
Scheduling and Labor Management:
Assist with scheduling of FOH team members, ensuring optimal staffing levels to meet operational needs while staying within budgetary constraints.
Track employee time and attendance, ensuring accurate reporting for payroll purposes.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Minimum of 2+ years of experience in a food service or retail environment, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide, motivate, and develop a team.
Ability to collaborate effectively with multiple departments, including BOH, Bakery, and other Prepared Foods locations.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn scheduling and timekeeping software (e.g., Paylocity).
Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations, with a commitment to maintaining compliance.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-focused mindset.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while maintaining a positive attitude and professionalism.
Willingness to lead with care and compassion, supporting the well-being and development of team members.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for long periods of time (up to 8 hours per shift) and perform tasks while standing.
Frequent bending, twisting, and reaching to access equipment, supplies, and products.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, with frequent lifting of objects weighing less than 25 pounds.
Ability to use fine motor skills for tasks such as food preparation, packaging, and operating kitchen equipment.
Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time, entering data and reviewing reports.
Ability to work in a hot, fast-paced kitchen or food service environment.
Working Conditions:
Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
Exposure to varying temperatures in kitchen and food preparation areas.
Noise and activity associated with a busy food service environment.
