Deli Manager

Job Summary

The Deli Department Manager oversees daily deli operations, ensuring efficient production, high-quality products, and superior customer service. This role includes managing staff, inventory, ordering supplies, implementing merchandising strategies, and maintaining a safe work environment while driving profitability and supporting Mackenthun's Exceptional Experience.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Staff Management:

• Lead, motivate, and train deli staff.
• Create schedules and assign tasks to ensure optimal staffing.
• Conduct performance reviews and provide feedback for staff development.
• Foster a positive team environment to promote engagement and morale.
• Conduct probationary and annual employee performance reviews to monitor development and provide growth opportunities.

Product Management & Production:

• Oversee deli product preparation, ensuring quality and compliance with recipes.
• Coordinate daily production schedules to meet demand and minimize waste.
• Develop new deli items in collaboration with the marketing team.

Inventory & Ordering:

• Monitor inventory levels and place orders to ensure stock availability and minimize spoilage.
• Implement FIFO inventory rotation to ensure product freshness.

Customer Service & Sales:

• Provide exceptional customer service, address inquiries, and resolve complaints.
• Monitor sales trends and adjust product offerings to meet demand.
• Implement merchandising strategies to increase sales and product visibility.

Health, Safety & Compliance:

• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations.
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment, including performing regular safety audits.

Financial Performance & Budgeting:

• Meet budget goals by managing inventory, pricing, labor, and shrink.
• Track sales, purchases, and labor to ensure financial targets are met.
• Monitor product quality and ensure accurate billing for special orders.
• Complete weekly contributions to overhead (CTO) reports, comparing budget vs. actual sales, purchases, and labor expenses.

Collaboration:

• Work with store managers, marketing teams, and other departments to align goals.
• Participate in promotional events and contribute to store success.

Department Development:

• Stay updated on industry trends and customer preferences.
• Introduce new products and collaborate on special sales and events.
• Foster employee development to reach department and store objectives.

Education & Experience:

• 3+ years in customer service or deli/food service experience.
• 2+ years management experience preferred.

Skills & Competencies:

• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to prioritize and delegate tasks effectively.
• Proficiency in Windows, Google Business Suite, and basic computer skills.
• Strong math and communication skills.
• Ability to resolve conflict and motivate staff effectively.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

• Frequent standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Exposure to machine noise, heat, and cold temperatures.
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced, multifaceted environment.
• Exposure to cleaning chemicals and various work areas.
