Walt Churchill's Market is hiring a Full-Time Deli Manager for our Maumee, OH location.

Job Description:

The Deli Manager reports to the Store Manager and is responsible for the overall success of the Deli, including the Deli, Seafood, and merchandising operation. The Deli Manager will motivate and manage the Deli staff, hold daily huddles with staff, clearly communicate objectives to ensure quality products are being produced, uphold health and safety standards, ensure that all customers have a great experience, and manage product shelf life in order to generate sales. This position directly supervises all Deli and Seafood employees. The Deli Manager is expected to work 5 days per week for a total of 45 hours, including one weekend day.

Ability to work weekends and holidays is required. The regular schedule for this position is mostly days (7-3, 8-4, 9-5) with the possibility of closing (1-9) on occasion. Usually will have 1 weekend day off. Required hours may vary according to business needs.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

* Provide exceptional customer service in all areas and uphold the same standards for all Deli Department staff

* Work with the Assistant Deli Manager in effectively training and educating new Deli employees to ensure new hires are successful in their position and as a team member

* Oversee, manage, and aid employees in preparation and production of cold salads and dips, cooking large quantities of soup, smoking meat, grilling, deep frying, and preparing warm and cold catering orders

* Oversee and manage cost, quality, production control, and timing of all scratch-made Deli products

* Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked department. Ensure proper rotation of all department products

* Create, manage, and check Deli and Seafood product quality by following WCM’s recipes

* Work with the Assistant Deli Manager in controlling production numbers and costs, including ordering product, tracking shrink, managing inventory, and optimizing products

* Responsible for leading the department’s Quarterly Inventory

* Customer service management, including properly handling customer issues and using problem-solving skills to ensure all WCM customers have an excellent experience

* Strategically merchandise and track sales to meet customer demand and increase profits

* Passion for working with and cooking Deli and Seafood items

* Participate in or lead special events and holidays; e.g. the Big Cheese, Holiday Food and Wine Show, etc.

* Create schedules for all Deli employees, not exceeding the maximum sales per labor hours

* Ensure compliance with safety and sanitation standards mandated by government regulations

* Maintain and clean all Deli and Seafood equipment

* Monitor staff progress, providing regular feedback regarding their performance and any areas of improvement. This includes completing annual Employee Performance Evaluations

* Maintain timely email, phone, and in-person communication with vendors, customers, and co-workers

* Participate in meetings with vendors and department managers, including but not limited to: weekly store management meetings, marketing meetings, and quarterly financial reviews

* Address and document disciplinary action, having consulted store manager and/or Human Resources

* Review weekly invoices

* Attend food shows as directed by upper management

* Additional duties as assigned


Requirements

Skills & Abilities:

* Management experience in a deli, restaurant, or grocery setting

* Deli and/or cooking experience and general knowledge

* Knowledge of seafood, specialty imported cheese, and other specialty deli foods is preferred

* Moderate computer skills, including email, Excel, Word, and online ordering systems

* Great multitasking, organizational, communication, and customer service skills

* Comfortable working with the public and greeting, speaking with, and assisting customers

* Attention to detail, ensuring duties are completed correctly and on time

* Leadership, sales, and merchandizing skills

Education and Experience:

* High School Diploma/GED

* Management experience in a grocery or other retail setting, preferred

* 3+ years of retail experience, required

* Deli experience, required

* ServSafe/Food Safety Certification or willingness to obtain one

* Culinary education (classes, certification, or degree) preferred

Physical Requirements:

* Prolonged periods of standing, walking, twisting, lifting, bending, and reaching

* Occasional instances of pushing, pulling, and squatting

* Must be able to frequently lift up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift up to 80 pounds
