What You Will Do

As the Dental Care Coordinator, you will assess patients' dental hygiene, provide patient recommendations and dental referrals, and advise dentists on hemostatic and antibiotic coverage requirements for patients with bleeding disorders.

The Opportunity

  • Participate in comprehensive clinic to obtain patient dental history and hygiene; collaborates with multidisciplinary team members to establish an appropriate plan of care.  Educate patients about dental health and the importance of routine dental care.
  • Provide telephone support and follow-up for patients who are having bleeding issues related to dental problems or treatment.
  • Refer patients to local dentists and connect patients with dental insurance resources.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with dental providers in Indiana to ensure continual support for the bleeding disorder and sickle cell community.
  • Dental liaison between dentist and medical provider.
  • Facilitate coordination of dental procedures with other needed medical services.
  • Facilitate the scheduling of dental operating room (OR) cases for pediatric patients.
  • Compose treatment letters to dental professionals outlining IHI recommendations for hemostatic and antibiotic coverage for dental procedures. 
  • Enter data related to surgery procedures and outcomes.
  • Create and update education programs and materials for patients and providers.

Performance Requirements

Knowledge

  1. Procedures used in dental prophylactic treatments.
  2. Dental terminology.

Skills

  1. Dental hygiene/assistant techniques.
  2. Skilled in client advocacy and public speaking.

Abilities

  1. Interact effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary health care team.
  2. Establish and maintain effective working relationships, resolve conflict, communicate productively with colleagues.
  3. Collect and record dental status of patients.
  4. Provide postoperative instructions as directed.
  5. Strong documentation skills.
  6. Maintain records.
  7. Communicate effectively with diverse patient population.


Requirements
  • Valid Dental Hygienist license in the state of Indiana preferred; however, candidates with dental assistant certification or equivalent qualifications may also be considered.
  • Minimum 3 years of related experience
  • Valid driver's license and insured automobile required
  • All IHI employees are expected to enable multi-factor authentication via their personal smart phone/smart device in order to access IHI systems as a requirement of the role.  

This position is open to residents of the State of Indiana, and requires routine presence at our Center in Indianapolis, IN. Frequency of on-site presence is dependent upon role and department needs.
