Job Description - Dental Director


PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Dental Director is responsible for overseeing the clinical operations, quality of care, and strategic direction of the dental department across three locations, including a mobile dental unit. This role ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including HRSA, OSHA, and infection control standards, while fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and patient-centered care.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

Clinical Leadership & Oversight:

  • Conduct comprehensive full mouth exams and diagnosing dental conditions.
  • Offer treatment planning options and discussing them with patients.
  • Provide high-quality clinical treatments with excellence and efficiency.
  • Maintain an awareness of the budget and working in conjunction with Operations team to attain financial objectives.
  • Mentor and coaching new dentists and an entire team of dental professionals.
  • Provide clinical supervision to other dentist, dental hygienists, and dental assistants.
  • Ensure high-quality dental care including diagnostics, x-rays, extractions, preventive services, and restorative procedures.
  • Develop and implement clinical protocols and workflows to optimize efficiency and patient outcomes.

Compliance & Quality Assurance:

  •   Ensure full compliance with HRSA guidelines, OSHA standards, and infection control protocols.
  • Monitor and evaluate clinical performance metrics, patient satisfaction, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Lead internal audits and participate in external reviews and site visits.

  

Program Development & Strategic Planning:

  •  Collaborate with executive leadership to expand dental services.
  • Identify opportunities for grant funding, partnerships, and service enhancements.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and budgeting for the dental department.

Staff Management & Development:

  • Participate in recruitment, onboarding, and performance evaluations of dental staff.
  • Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment with ongoing training and professional development.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels and coverage across all sites.

Administrative Duties:

  • Oversee scheduling, patient flow, and resource allocation to maintain a busy and productive practice.
  • Review and approve dental-related policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reporting for compliance and operational needs.

Requirements

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of HRSA requirements, OSHA, and infection control standards.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build rapport with patients, providers, and staff.
  • Ability to read, write, and effectively communicate in the English language, with or without the use of auxiliary aids or services.
  • PC proficiency.
  • Ability to interact and work with diverse populations.
  • Ability to review, understand, and apply concepts presented in training programs, conferences, and/or professional literature.
  • Educated on and compliant with HIPAA regulations; maintains strict confidentiality of client information.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Physically demanding, high-stress environment. 
  • Ability to endure short, intermittent, and/or long periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties. 
  • Full range of body motion required. Position requires reaching, bending, and handling objects with hands and/or fingers, talking and/or hearing, and sight. 
  • Exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases and utilizing standard precautions to prevent transmission of diseases acquired by contact with blood, body fluids, non-intact skin and mucous membranes. 
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing 25 pounds or less. 
  • Accomplish job duties using various types of equipment/supplies, e.g. pens, pencils, calculators, computer keyboard, telephone, etc. 
  • Ability to travel to other FoundCare locations and perform job duties. 
  • Ability to travel to other locations to attend meetings, workshops, and seminars, plus travel to other FoundCare departments and FoundCare conference rooms. 

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:

  • Fast-paced, high-volume dental practice.
  • Multi-site operations including fixed clinics and mobile unit.
  • Collaborative, interdisciplinary team.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • DDS or DMD from an accredited dental school.
  • Active Florida dental license in good standing.
  • Minimum of five (5) years clinical experience, with at least two (2) years in a leadership role preferred.
  • Experience in an FQHC or community health setting strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Haitian Creole or English/Spanish) is a plus.
