Dental Trainer

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Dental Trainer is responsible for the Training of all Clinical and Non-Clinical Support Staff as directed by the AVP/Clinical Operations Director of Dental Services and the Chief Dental Officer. The Dental Trainer ensures staff competency and consistency of system workflows and procedures in all Dental offices. The Dental Trainer holds frequent in-service training to existing staff and also prepared, coordinates, and delivers training to newly hired Dental Staff. The Dental Trainer serves as Subject Matter Expert for Dentrix and other related electronic medical / dental recordkeeping systems, and provides assistance to new Dental Providers, including Hygienists and Dentists. Adheres to Corporate Compliance program, by reporting improper or unethical conduct, violation of applicable laws, regulations or program requirements to AVP/Clinical Operations Director of Dental Services or Human Resources as needed.

DETAILED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Prepares, coordinates, and delivers the Clinical Training Program for all Dental Staff as assigned.
• At least annually, assesses staff for competency in required clinical skills at office locations.
• Assist with onboarding activities, including but not limited to assisting the HR department with new hire tasks and assisting employee health by administering vaccines to new hires as necessary.
• Assists with the delivery of CPR and BLS training for staff as assigned.
• Provides in-service training to staff on clinical skills as directed by AVP/Clinical Operations Director of Dental and Chief Dental Officer.
• Provides in-service training on all new clinical procedures.
• Performs back-office inspections and enters data into file.
• Responsible for administering and tracking a pre-designed Training Program for all relevant support staff.
• Provides end user training and support on the various clinical system applications.
• Assists in curriculum design, training manuals, classroom exercises, competency assessment and testing, and development of on-line computer-based learning modules in support of employee roles and job functions.
• Revises existing materials as necessary to reflect the needs of the audience, makes application enhancements, and system upgrades.
• Builds and updates training environment to support training materials and realistic scenarios/workflows required for end user training.
• Provides follow-up support for end users, including reinforcement work sessions, departmental rounding, and on-the-job refresher in-services.
• Participates in application testing and go-live activities, including support of new projects or system enhancements.
• Assesses the learning needs of clinical and administrative staff to prepare them for using the systems required for patient care.
• Prepares all materials and supplies needed for classes prior to training.
• Demonstrates a willingness to accept non-routine work assignments as appropriate.
• Accessible for all staff during normal business hours as a troubleshooting resource.
• Participates with Performance Improvement efforts e.g. completion of audits, chart reviews, logs etc.
• Assists with the delivery of other associated training, including mandatory requirements for AAAHC, HRSA, PCMH, etc. 
• Promote Patient Satisfaction efforts through staff training on customer service, to include AIDET, diffusion, urgency, etc.
• Works in conjunction with Operations Team including Asst. Vice Presidents, Department Directors, Managers, and others as needed.

• Superior clinical competencies and the ability to transfer those competencies to the clinical staff.
• Proficient in all dental procedures.
• Knowledge of dental standards, laws, and ethics.
• Ability to apply the principles of adult training.

• Knowledge of instructional techniques and training methodologies in order to develop, implement, evaluate, and revise training programs.
• Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
• Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must possess solid interpersonal skills.
• Ability to utilize computers with ease and proficiency in computer software (i.e. Microsoft Office).

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

• High School diploma, GED or equivalent training and experience.
• Minimum of Expanded Functions Dental Assistant and Radiography certificate.
• Minimum of ten years’ experience as a Dental Assistant.
• Prior computer and soft skills training required.
• Prior experience with Electronic Health Records.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Prior computer experience, dental systems required
• BLS certification 
• BLS Instructor certification preferred 
• Bilingual skills preferred: English and Spanish
• Reliable transportation and willingness to travel locally
