Job Description - Dentist

Akicita Federal is hiring General Dentists to deliver comprehensive oral healthcare services for the Indian Health Service at the Woodrow Wilson Keeble Memorial Health Care Center in Sisseton, South Dakota. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in an underserved community, providing essential dental care to Native American patients in a clinic dedicated to their health and well-being.

- Diagnose and treat a broad range of dental conditions for a diverse patient population, including restorative, preventive, and emergency dental care
- Perform routine and complex dental procedures such as extractions, fillings, crowns, and root canals in accordance with established clinical standards
- Conduct thorough oral health assessments, including examination of teeth, gums, and surrounding oral structures
- Develop and communicate individualized treatment plans, educating patients on oral hygiene practices and preventive care strategies
- Document patient encounters, treatment plans, and clinical findings accurately in the electronic health records system
- Coordinate with dental assistants, hygienists, and other clinic staff to ensure efficient patient flow and high-quality care delivery
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and comply with all applicable federal, state, and clinic-specific healthcare standards and protocols
$316,160 - $322,400 a year
- Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from an accredited dental school
- Active, unrestricted dental license to practice in the state of South Dakota (or eligibility to obtain prior to start)
- Board certification or eligibility as a General Dentist
- Demonstrated clinical experience providing general dentistry services across a broad scope of procedures
- Ability to work on-site in Sisseton, South Dakota for the duration of the engagement

- Prior experience providing dental care in a federally qualified health center (FQHC), tribal health clinic, or Indian Health Service facility
- Familiarity with the oral health needs and cultural considerations of Native American patient populations
- Experience working in rural or frontier healthcare settings with limited specialist referral resources
- Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems used in federal or tribal health environments
- Bilingual or multicultural communication skills that enhance patient rapport and care coordination
