Job Description - Deputy Clerk

The King and Queen County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office has an immediate opening for a full-time position. The Employee will be responsible for calculating the correct fees for and recording and indexing a variety of legal documents relating to the ownership of real estate in King and Queen County.



Other duties will include:




  • Issuing marriage licenses;

  • opening and maintaining criminal and civil case files;

  • administering oaths;

  • collecting court fines and costs;

  • assist the public in locating parcels of land using maps and plats and probating wills.



Various computer programs will be used to complete these tasks daily.



The Employee must be able to work under pressure, with frequent interruptions, and often without direct supervision.



A strong desire to work with and serve the public is essential. 



Occasional travel may be required for the Employee to receive additional training.


 


Minimum Requirements:

Graduation from high school or equivalent, with some experience relative to the duties to be performed, is preferred.



General knowledge of office programs is required.
