GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION


This employee performs such duties as collection of taxes, responsibility for a cash drawer, including processing payments and balancing collected funds as required.  They answer the phone when needed, assisting taxpayers with questions or problems, performs first contact in person with taxpayer. Must have an out-going personality and positive attitude.  Must have great customer service skills.  Research will be a major component of this job.  Must work overtime in March and October each year.


 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


1. Collection of county taxes (Cash Handling) including balancing a cash drawer as required.


2. Assisting taxpayers (Customer Service Skills) with tax needs, both on the phone and in person applying payments to the correct accounts.


3. Processes postal mail.


4. Process credit card payments.


5. Annual Statement Preparation.


6. Bryant office relief as needed.


7. Backup Money Order tracking.


8. Backup safety meetings.


9.  Return mail research using Win Collect, CAMA, INA, Data Scout and court records.


10. E-mail bounce research.


11. Electronic Change of address, emails and phones.


12. Determining whether a taxpayer should receive clearance for tags.


13. Electronic receipt notification.


14. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.


 


QUALIFICATIONS


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.


 


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


Knowledge of a specialized field (however acquired), such as basic accounting, basic computer skills, communications, etc. Equivalent of four years in high school, plus night, trade extension, or correspondence school specialized training, equal to two years of college, plus 19 to 23 months related experience and/or training, and 1 to 6 months related management experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.


 


COMMUNICATION SKILLS


Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, general public and other employees of the organization.



SOFTWARE SKILLS REQUIRED


Intermediate: Word Processing/Typing, 10-Key, Accounting, Alphanumeric Data Entry, Database, Spreadsheet



USE OF MACHINES, EQUIPMENT AND/OR COMPUTERS


Regular use of complex machines and equipment (desktop/laptop computer and software, road and production machines and equipment, driver's license/cdl, etc.)


 


WORKING CONDITIONS


Normal working conditions as found within an office setting, wherein there is controlled temperature and a low noise level, plus a minimum of distractions.

Semi-repetitive, low physical. Semi-repetitive type work which requires periods of concentration for varied time cycles as prescribed by the tasks.


 


While performing the functions of this job, the employee is continuously required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk or hear; regularly required to sit; frequently required to walk; and occasionally required to stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision; color vision; peripheral vision; and ability to adjust focus.


 


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION


The hours maybe extended due to work-in-progress or workload, especially during March and October of each year.


 


Needs to have the following:  cashing handling proficiency, ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in written form, expertise in Microsoft Office Suite and working as a team.

This job description does not constitute an employment agreement between Saline County and the employee and is subject to change by the employer if the need of the employer and requirements of the job change.


 



  • Starting rate of $31,368 annually for a new hire.

  • Established employee rate of up to $32,936 annually, dependent upon experience (An established employee is an individual who has been a full-time Saline County employee for more than 90 days).

  • This position works Monday/Friday, 8 AM - 4:30 PM with paid holiday's off, dependent upon work load.  

  • Bilingual pay available.

  • Group health, dental and life insurance is paid by the County for the employee's coverage.

  • The County contributes 15.32% towards the employee's retirement through the Arkansas Public Employees' Retirement System.
