Deputy Director of Transit Salary Range: $82,904 - $91,194
Job Summary: The City of Fredericksburg is seeking a dynamic Deputy Director of Transit to support the operation of Fredericksburg Regional Transit. This role involves advanced professional work under the direction of the Director of Public Transit, with responsibilities in transit planning, supervisory and administrative tasks, programming and budgeting, grant management, regulatory compliance, policy and procedure development, and oversight of bus operations, safety, and security.
Essential Job Functions:
Manage and develop transit routes and services.
Implement transit operation programs (marketing, public relations, safety).
Supervise department staff and manage performance.
Collaborate with officials for compliance and transportation needs.
Oversee FXBGO! operations, budgets, and grants.
Develop policies for transit administration and operations.
Conduct transit planning (short-term and long-term).
Prepare reports for Federal and State agencies.
Direct procurement document preparation and bids.
Support annual budget preparation for the City.
Track system performance and establish performance measures.
Maintain safety standards for equipment and work conditions.
Represent FXBGO! at regional meetings.
Communicate effectively with officials and the public.
Minimum Requirements:
Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in transportation planning, business administration, urban planning, or related field.
Minimum of three (3) years of management experience, preferably in public transit.
Special Requirements:
Pass a criminal record check and drug test
Maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
Availability for flexible scheduling and emergency conditions
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of transit operations, management practices, and applicable laws
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and strong interpersonal communication
Ability to work independently and manage staff effectively
Skill in problem-solving and using independent judgment
Ability to prepare and maintain reports and documentation
