Job Description - Deputy Political Director

About the Role

Talarico for Texas is building a people-powered campaign rooted in grassroots support, integrity, and the belief that politics should work for everyday Texans. James Talarico’s campaign for the U.S. Senate will focus heavily on coordinating closely with local leaders and community organizations across the state who are most connected to the issues that matter to Texans. To that end, we are seeking a full-time Deputy Political Director to support our community engagement strategy. This is not an entry-level role.

Responsibilities

  • Support the execution of statewide political and coalition strategy
  • Build and maintain relationships with elected officials, community leaders, advocacy organizations, and key stakeholders
  • Assist in managing endorsement outreach, tracking, and follow-up
  • Coordinate political events including roundtables, meet-and-greets, and coalition briefings
  • Help develop and maintain political call time lists, briefing materials, and memos
  • Staff candidate political meetings and events as needed
  • Track political engagements and ensure timely follow-up with key partners
  • Collaborate cross-departmentally with Finance, Communications, and Organizing teams to align outreach and maximize impact

Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of campaign or relevant political experience
  • Strong understanding of Texas political landscape and key stakeholder groups
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to engage diverse communities
  • Exceptional writing and organizational skills with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as needed
  • Familiarity with GSuite, Microsoft Office, and political tools (e.g., NGP, VAN)
  • Access to reliable transportation

Reports to: Political & Coalitions Director

Location: Austin, Texas (statewide travel required)

Salary: $8,000 per month

Benefits: Health care, paid time off, sick leave
