King and Queen County Sheriff W.R. Balderson appreciates your interest in a position with our Sheriff's office. We are seeking goal motivated team members to join the office. The following are the phases of the interview process to be considered for the position of Deputy Sheriff in our County:
Phase I
Application and a phone screening interview.
Phase II
Interview/s with the Sheriff or his designee/s.
Phase III
Full background investigation.
Phase IV
Conditional offer of employment based on the outcome of the following tests:
(1) Drug testing
(2) Polygraph
(3) Psychological examination
(4) Physical fitness for duty examination will be conducted before your start date.
Phase V
Acceptance of terms of employment and scheduling start date, orientation, and signing of your contract, if applicable.
Job Description
This a full-time position with fringe benefits. The Deputy Sheriff is a law enforcement position that is a sworn uniformed deputy. Under general supervision, exercises responsibilities for the enforcement of state and local laws relating to public safety and welfare. Exercises independent judgement in dealing with dangerous or unusual situations, exercising safety practices and procedures. Works under stressful, high-risk conditions. Reports to assigned Sergeant or Captain. The King and Queen County Sheriff’s Office will provide the Deputy Sheriff with a take home vehicle and must follow the vehicle take home policy.

The position of Deputy Sheriff is inherently a high stress and physically demanding position. All sworn staff must complete a basic course and maintain skills and physical fitness. The King & Queen County Sheriff’s Office requires the law fit course to be completed prior to hiring. The following activities are expected of all sworn Deputy Sheriffs:
