Summary of Responsibilities 

As part of drill crew, a Derrick Hand is responsible for the drilling mud, the mud pits where drilling fluids are circulated around the system, and the mud pumps.  They act as a lead for the driller, who is mostly restricted to the rig floor.  In many cases the Derrick Hand is exclusively responsible for work in the derrick.  Derrick Hands normally work 12 hour shifts.  Schedules will consist of fourteen days on and fourteen days off; working both days and night.  Derrick Hands are expected to represent themself and Noble Drilling in a positive manner.  Derrick Hands should always follow the correct chain of command and report all safety problems or violations immediately. 

Primary Responsibilities (Not listed in relation to their priority) 

1. Assist the driller in running the crew 
2. Keep shakers, tanks and hopper house clean at all times.  
3. Keep pumps, valves in sound working order 
4. Keep pump houses clean and organized 
5. Inventory parts and track all chemicals 
6. Do not freeze or overflow anything 
7. Keep up with cuttings 
8. Oversee dewatering hands  
9. Keep track of water levels in all tanks including salt water 
10. Report daily the chemicals that are mixed 
11. Fill out pump books daily 
12. Keep all electric pumps greased 
13. Keep pressure washer running 
14. keep swabs and extra parts rebuilt at all times 
15. Listen to pumps as often as possible to ensure zero washes and minimal down time.  

Requirements

Experience Requirements 

• Minimum of 1 years related experience.  
• Must successfully complete Noble Drilling’s industry specific training and orientation 

Education Requirements 

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED). 

Special Requirements 

• 18 years or older 
• Valid Driver’s License 
• Average Shift: 12 hour work days  
• Rotation: fourteen day on fourteen days off 

Travel Requirements 

Travel to rig location before tower begins.

Language Skills

Ability to add and subtract multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers,

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variable in standardized situations.
