Desert Highlands Association/Golf Club is looking for an enthusiastic, team-oriented Assistant Golf Course Superintendent who is passionate about golf course management and committed to delivering exceptional playing conditions for our membership. This individual will be an integral part of the leadership team, working closely with the Director of Agronomy to uphold the club’s standards of excellence. The ideal candidate is a proactive leader who takes pride in their work and understands the elevated expectations that come with a private, member-owned environment. They possess strong agronomic knowledge, but also value the art of course presentation, playability, and member satisfaction. This person thrives in a collaborative, hands-on role where communication, accountability, and continuous improvement are valued.

Requirements

  

Key Responsibilities:

  · Assist in the planning and execution of all agronomic practices including mowing, irrigation, fertilization, pesticide applications, and cultural practices.

· Supervise and train the grounds staff to ensure quality standards and productivity.

· Monitor course conditions daily and make adjustments to maintenance programs as needed.

· Support the development and implementation of short- and long-term agronomic strategies.

· Operate and maintain irrigation systems and ensure proper water management practices.

· Ensure all equipment is used and maintained properly, working closely with the Equipment Manager.

· Participate in budget planning and cost control efforts under the guidance of the Director of   Agronomy.

· Serve as the acting Director of Agronomy in their absence.

· Monitor lake maintenance contractor for compliance to contract specifications.

· Able to assist and direct current clubhouse maintenance and seasonal ornamentals and or/flora decorations around the clubhouse.

· Coordinate annual tree trimming and tree care for DH common areas.

· Communicate effectively with the Golf Professional staff, COO and club members regarding course conditions and projects.

· Promote safety, environmental stewardship, and professionalism among the maintenance team.

Qualifications:

  

Required Qualifications:

· Degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related   field.

· 2–4 years of progressive golf course maintenance experience, with at least 1 year   in a supervisory role.

· Possession of (or ability to obtain within 90 days) a state pesticide applicator’s   license.

· Strong knowledge of warm and/or cool-season turfgrass management (depending on   location).

· Familiarity with modern irrigation systems (e.g., Toro, Rain Bird).

· Excellent organizational and time management skills.

· Strong communication and leadership abilities.

· Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, as needed.

· Commitment to high-quality turf conditions and outstanding member service.

Preferred:

· Previous experience at a private, member-owned club.

· Experience with tournament or high-level golf event preparation.

· Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  · Position is in the Golf Course Maintenance building located in a private residential community in North Scottsdale, AZ

· Must be able to frequently sit, stand, bend, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and  talk or hear, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and walk.

· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., and to lift overhead and push/pull, move lighter objects.

· The employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat.

· The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical   shock; and vibration.

· The noise   level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

· This employee is regularly exposed to pollen, grass, dust, etc.

· The employee is occasionally exposed to Arizona desert wildlife such as snakes, scorpions, spiders, bobcats, javelinas, etc.
