Job Description - Design Engineer

Southland Industries is an MEP building systems firm that provides innovative, yet practical engineering, construction, service, building automation, and energy solutions. For almost 65 years, we have been optimizing each stage of the building lifecycle with our in-house expertise and improving how buildings are designed, built, and maintained. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

:

Primary responsibility is to join the MEP building systems experts, responsible for learning and designing energy-efficient mechanical systems, from conceptual sketches through full design and construction. The specific job duties of the position include:

Compile content for design reports and presentations, as part of his group’s focus on the design and development of energy related projects.

·

Perform more complex calculations, drawings and specifications related to HVAC, plumbing or other systems.

·

Prepare preliminary redline design layouts for estimating.

·Calculate loads, pressure drops, air balance, ventilation requirements, etc.

·Size and select system equipment and devices per project’s requirements.

·Analyze building energy use for optimizing systems selection.

·Develop system narratives (writing, organizing the document, develop images)

·Perform CAD/BIM design.

·Produce mechanical and control drawings and/or markups using Revit, AutoCAD and Bluebeam.

·Coordinate mechanical system design with architects and other consultants.

· Guide and mentor junior design engineers, conduct peer review for calculations, drawings, specs, reports, etc.

·Play a crucial role in conceptual design for specific projects and represent the company as a design professional at project team meetings.

·

Implement LEAN design build principles for our customers.

·

Create just-in-time designs and deliverables to support the estimating and sales process.

·

Visit project jobsites and partner with the field for just-in-in-time feedback on compliance with construction codes and resolutions of design issues during the construction phase.

EDUCATION/SKILLS:

·Minimum a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering related field.

·

Minimum two years of HVAC and plumbing systems

design experience.
