We’re looking for a Design Engineer to join a Tier 3 engineering team supporting enterprise IT services and network infrastructure. This role is ideal for a technically strong network engineer who enjoys solving complex production issues, troubleshooting infrastructure, supporting new technology deployments, and serving as a subject matter expert for network operations.
As a Tier 3 Engineer, you’ll be responsible for testing, analyzing, and restoring production services, supporting escalated incidents, monitoring service performance, and helping ensure IT services meet established SLAs. You’ll also work closely with Tier 2 engineers, customers, and operations teams to coordinate changes, troubleshoot issues, and maintain reliable network services.
Resolve complex, service-impacting network events and incidents.
Respond to issues escalated by Tier 1 and Tier 2 engineers.
Escalate critical incidents to Operations Management and Directors when appropriate.
Engage the Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT) when necessary.
Monitor IT infrastructure and service performance to proactively identify potential issues.
Troubleshoot and isolate network and IT service problems.
Initiate corrective actions within your scope of knowledge and authority.
Assist with network troubleshooting and restoration activities.
Develop network capacity plans and support growth planning.
Implement network bypass, recovery, and backup procedures when required.
Create acceptance criteria for new IT services and managed infrastructure.
Test and validate new technologies and IT services before they are introduced into the environment.
Coordinate the acceptance and implementation of new services and managed elements.
Use network diagnostic and management tools to identify and resolve problems.
Perform required testing and maintenance activities.
Maintain accurate problem and inventory information in relevant databases.
Serve as a customer interface for scheduling network changes and coordinating the Change Management process.
Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and support to Tier 2 Network Engineers.
Act as a subject matter expert for assigned technologies and operational issues.
Support customer status calls, notifications, and escalations as needed.
Strong experience with enterprise IT infrastructure and networking technologies, including:
Routers and switches
WAN and LAN
TDM
VoIP
Telecommunications
Other internetworking technologies
Strong understanding of TCP/IP, including addressing, routing, UDP, and TCP.
Expert-level experience configuring and managing Netrio Omnicenter.
Proficiency with network management tools, particularly for fault management.
Strong understanding of incident management, escalation, and change management processes.
Experience with network performance analysis and capacity planning.
Strong understanding of how network configuration decisions can affect performance.
Experience using fault, configuration, performance, and security management tools.
Experience with advanced network diagnostic tools such as Sniffer and RMON.
Understanding of applicable vendor and industry standards.
Ability to provide technical leadership and mentor less experienced engineers.
Strong communication, writing, and interpersonal skills.
Experience with the following is valuable:
Windows and UNIX-based servers, including Windows Server 2012+, Solaris, and AIX.
Oracle, SQL, Lotus Notes, and other relational database technologies.
Network-based security threats and common attack techniques.
Intrusion Prevention/Detection Systems such as TrendMicro, Snort, Cisco, Dragon, NFR, and Manhunt.
SIEM technologies and platforms such as McAfee ESM, CS-MARS, QRadar, ArcSight, and Manhunt.
Security appliances, proxies, gateways, and other networking/security technologies.
U.S. Citizen
Ability to successfully pass required background checks.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
Minimum 3 years of experience with network administration tools, software, operating systems, and hardware.
3–5 years of experience providing OS/server administration across Windows, UNIX, or Linux, with significant exposure to internetworking technologies.
VMware certification: VCP6+-DCV or VCP6+-CMA.
Experience with Arista or Arista CVP, as well as Cisco networking environments.
Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with BGP, routing, and switching.
Python and Ansible experience is a plus.
