About Hollman
Hollman, Inc. is the world’s largest manufacturer of custom wood lockers, headquartered in Irving, Texas. For more than 45 years we have designed and built premium locker and cabinetry solutions for country clubs, golf and resort properties, luxury spas and health clubs, collegiate and professional athletics, and corporate workplaces. Our reputation is built on craftsmanship, engineering precision, and on-time delivery.
Position Summary
The Design Engineer (Electromechanical) leads the design, testing, and integration of electronic and electromechanical subsystems into Hollman’s custom wood locker and casework products, while producing manufacturable engineering documentation for the surrounding structure. As Hollman advances a connected, smart-locker product line, this role owns how electronic access/locks, lighting, power and charging, and sensors are engineered into our products — from component selection and packaging through bench testing, validation, and release to production. This is a hands-on role for an early-career engineer with a mechatronics orientation who wants to shape a growing product capability.
Key Responsibilities
Electromechanical Design, Testing & Integration (core)
• Design and integrate electronic and electromechanical subsystems — electronic/RFID/keypad/mobile locks and access control, integrated lighting, USB/AC power and device charging, and sensors — into locker and casework products.
• Own component selection, packaging, mounting, wire routing, connectorization, wire management, and serviceable access for electronic assemblies within the wood structure.
• Develop and execute bench, functional, environmental, and durability test plans for electromechanical assemblies; capture data, analyze results, and drive design corrections.
• Define integration requirements and interfaces; validate fit, form, function, power, and safety of purchased and internally designed subsystems.
• Support electrical safety, grounding, and applicable compliance considerations for products with powered components.
Product & Manufacturing Design
• Produce 3D models, assemblies, and production drawings for the locker/casework structures that house electromechanical systems, using 3D CAD.
• Convert requirements into complete engineering packages — dimensioned drawings, cut lists, and BOMs — including electrical/electronic BOM lines and assembly instructions.
• Coordinate CNC nesting/machining and DFM so both the wood structure and its electronic integration are manufacturable and serviceable.
• Select structural materials, hardware, and finishes compatible with electronic integration.
Cross-functional
• Support prototyping and first-article builds; incorporate feedback from production, quality, and installation.
• Coordinate with electronics/hardware suppliers, technical sales, project management, and procurement.
• Maintain engineering records, revision control, and part/product data in ERP/PLM systems.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field — or an equivalent combination of education and relevant electromechanical experience.
• 0–5 years of experience in electromechanical, mechatronics, or product design that included electronic integration (internship and co-op experience counts).
• Proficiency with 3D CAD (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion 360) and the ability to produce clean, dimensioned production drawings.
• Demonstrated ability to integrate electronic components into a physical product — mounting, wiring/routing, connectors, and serviceable access.
• Hands-on electromechanical testing experience — building test setups, running functional/durability tests, and documenting results.
• Ability to read wiring/schematic and connection diagrams and interpret architectural/shop drawings.
• Working understanding of GD&T and engineering drawing standards.
• Authorized to work in the U.S. and able to work onsite full-time in Irving, TX.
Preferred Skills
• Direct experience with electronic locks/access control, lighting, power/charging systems, or sensor integration in products or furniture.
• Familiarity with electrical safety/compliance (e.g., UL/CE considerations) for powered products.
• Experience designing wood products, casework, cabinetry, or millwork and familiarity with plywood, MDF, solid wood, and laminates.
• Knowledge of CNC machining and nesting software.
• Exposure to ERP/PLM, lean manufacturing, and design-for-manufacturability.
Success Metrics (First 12 Months)
• Test pass rate and reliability of electromechanical subsystems integrated into shipped products.
• On-time release of validated electromechanical designs supporting product/project milestones.
• Drawing and BOM accuracy (structure + electronic BOM) released error-free to production.
• Reduction in field/warranty issues related to electronic integration.
• Reduction in production rework or RFIs attributable to design errors.
Physical & Work Environment
Combination of office, engineering test lab/bench, and manufacturing-floor environment. Requires hands-on work with prototypes and electromechanical assemblies, occasional time near machinery, and the ability to occasionally lift up to 25 lbs. Standard onsite schedule at the Irving, TX facility.
