Job Description - Design Staff - Landscape Architecture

Ground Studio is an award-winning landscape architecture studio with offices in Monterey, Napa, and Santa Barbara. Our work celebrates the uniqueness and diversity of each client and place, maintaining a consistent focus on design excellence, thorough project management, and superior service. Our process is rooted in collaboration, and team members are involved throughout the project duration, from design conception to details, demanding dedicated engagement in the entire process.

We are seeking a practiced and ambitious individual to join us in our Monterey studio as a Designer.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

This position is an opportunity for a highly motivated, engaged designer to be a thought partner on compelling design projects in a collaborative studio, while building their technical acumen through thoughtful work on landscapes at a variety of scales, phases, and typologies in some of the most beautiful locations in the world.

The ideal candidate:

Is highly creative, with a keen design sense and passion for creating beautiful, sophisticated landscapes.
Shares our philosophy that environmental stewardship, regenerative design/construction, and unparalleled aesthetics are tantamount.
Has extraordinary technical skills and is equally at home working as part of a dynamic, collaborative project team or independently on self-directed tasks.
Is familiar with all phases of design, documentation, and construction and approach their work with rigor, integrity, and professionalism.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work directly under the project managers in a supportive role producing:
- Site analysis drawings
- Project research
- Schematic design presentations
- 2D graphics
- 3D digital models
- Construction documents
- Presentation materials
Exercise discretion and independent judgment in the performance of duties
Assist with client meetings and site reconnaissance
Possess a general understanding of the basic principles of landscape architecture is required, including:
- Site design
- Grading and drainage
- Plant material
- Working drawings
- Construction materials
- Construction details
Develop progressive graphic skills and an aptitude for digital media and software:
- MAC OSX
- Vectorworks Landmark, current year
- SketchUp
- MS Office Suite
- Adobe Design Suite
- Hand sketching and lettering

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture
A minimum of three years’ experience in the residential design sector
Currently authorized to work in the US without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future

This is a full-time in-person position in our Napa studio with a competitive salary that is commensurate with experience. We follow a Compressed Work Week that typically allows for every other Friday off. Company benefits include paid time off, medical, dental, vision, and term life insurance coverage.
