Job Description - Designer, Furniture Division

Designer | Furniture Division

AOI is growing, and we’re looking for a talented Designer to join our Furniture Division. This is a high-impact role designed for a creative, detail-oriented professional who thrives on collaboration, innovation, and bringing environments to life through thoughtful design.

As Nebraska’s exclusive MillerKnoll dealer, AOI offers access to world-class products, cutting-edge tools, and the opportunity to work on diverse projects that shape how people work, connect, and thrive. If you’re passionate about design excellence, client relationships, and elevating every space you touch — this is the place to grow your career.

What You’ll Do

  • Design with Purpose: Develop space plans, furniture layouts, finish palettes, renderings, and installation drawings that meet aesthetic and functional goals.

  • Collaborate to Create: Partner closely with Account Executives and clients to understand project objectives, define requirements, and deliver customized design solutions.

  • Lead the Process: Manage design projects from field measurements and programming through final installation and post-project review.

  • Be the Expert: Apply deep product knowledge of MillerKnoll systems and core ancillary lines to craft innovative and compliant solutions.

  • Represent AOI: Participate in client presentations, site visits, and industry events as a trusted design advisor and brand ambassador.

  • Stay Current: Maintain up-to-date expertise in design trends, materials, and product innovations, ensuring every project reflects best-in-class creativity and precision.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field.

  • 3+ years of professional experience in commercial interiors or contract furniture design.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, CET Designer, and CAP Designer for drawings, renderings, and specifications.

  • Strong understanding of space planning, building codes, and ADA compliance.

  • Excellent communication, organization, and client presentation skills.

  • Ability to balance multiple projects, manage deadlines, and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Passion for learning, professional development, and continuous improvement.

What Will Make You Successful Here

  • Client-Focused: You build trust and deliver solutions that exceed expectations.

  • Collaborative: You’re a team player who values partnership across sales, project management, and installation teams.

  • Detail-Driven: You take pride in accuracy, from drawings to specifications to project documentation.

  • Curious and Creative: You bring new ideas, stay inspired, and push design boundaries.

  • Approachable & Accountable: You’re reliable, supportive, and known for your positive, professional attitude.

Why AOI

At AOI, we don’t just design spaces — we shape cultures. As a female-owned, Nebraska-based company celebrating over 40 years of excellence, AOI integrates Construction, Furniture, and Prefabricated Interiors (DIRTT) to deliver seamless solutions from concept to completion.

Here, you’ll find:

  • Access to industry-leading brands like MillerKnoll and top ancillary lines.

  • Opportunities to work on diverse, high-impact projects across Omaha and beyond.

  • A company that celebrates authenticity, passion, and craftsmanship in everything we do.

In Short:

This isn’t just a design job — it’s an opportunity to create spaces that inspire, build relationships that last, and grow with a company that’s redefining what’s possible in workplace design.
