Development Chemist, Incubation at Gelest

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:  

• Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of special synthetic projects. 

• Ensure projects meet all safety, quality, and regulatory standards. 

• Drive the development of new synthetic methods and processes. 

• Provide technical guidance and support to team members. 

• Performs preliminary and in-process analytical work on reactions.  

• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify and explore new research opportunities. 

• Identify and evaluate potential new project opportunities. 

• Analyze facts and make observations during reactions and apply this information to resolve problems in a timely manner.  

• Prepare and present technical reports, proposals, and presentations. 

• Ensure all laboratory activities comply with safety protocols and regulatory requirements. 

• Other duties as assigned.  

KNOWLEDGE/ EXPERIENCE/SKILLS: 

• PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field . A focus in synthetic chemistry preferred.  

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

• Strong knowledge of chemical principles and reaction mechanisms. 

• Comfort and familiarity with handling air-sensitive and pyrophoric materials (i.e. using Schlenk lines and glove boxes) 

• Knowledge of modern analytical techniques (NMR, GC, MS, HPLC, UV, IR, TGA, DSC) and instrumentation for the isolation and identification of silane or metal organic compounds. 

• Experience with laboratory techniques, analytical instruments, and statistical analysis. 

• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. 

• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. 

• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. 

• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary and collaborative environment.

• Must be able to work in a chemical processing environment, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment PPE, (at minimum safety shoes and safety glasses. Respirators, gloves or other PPE) as necessary).

• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. May require occasional travel for conferences, meetings, and collaborative projects.
