Job Description - Development Coordinator





Description

  

The Development Coordinator plays a vital role in advancing the mission of Community Food Bank by cultivating relationships with donors and community partners through engagement. This position is responsible for supporting revenue growth, strengthening donor engagement, and ensuring the success of externally organized events that benefit the organization.


Requirements

  

Key Responsibilities

Donor Relations & Stewardship (35%)

  • Cultivate relationships with community and corporate partners and manage a portfolio of mid-level donors to encourage ongoing engagement.
  • Collaborate with the development team to identify prospective donors and increase retention.
  • Support the implementation of donor appreciation events and recognition initiatives.
  • Assist with stewardship of donors, through thank you letters and data entry into CRM (Salesforce).

Community Engagement (40%)

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for individuals, corporate and community organizations hosting speaking engagements and events on behalf of the food bank.
  • Provide event hosts with best practices to maximize impact, including toolkits and marketing materials to ensure alignment with the food bank’s mission and branding.
  • Work closely with marketing and communications to promote community events through digital and print channels.
  • Identify networking events, community meetings, and other opportunities to enhance visibility and partnerships.
  • Develop and execute Hunger Action Month plan to raise awareness and engagement throughout service area.
  • Develop and implement CFB led community events; examples include Legal Food Frenzy, Canstruction and Empty Bowls. 

Administrative & Collaborative Duties (25%)

  • Reconciles donation details and totals with the Finance department monthly, assists with annual reporting, FANO reports, and supports audits.
  • Assist in developing reports and presentations for the development team, leadership, and board members on event outcomes and donor engagement progress.
  • Serve as backup for Volunteer Coordinator as needed.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, marketing, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 2+ years of experience in fundraising, event coordination, donor relations, or a similar role within the nonprofit sector.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building abilities.
  • Proficiency in donor management software (e.g., Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce, Classy) is a plus.
  • Ability to work occasionally evenings and weekends for event coverage.
  • Passion for food security, community engagement, and the mission of CFB.

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent public speaking skills in a variety of settings
  • Must have excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Excellent customer service and relationship building/interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral). 
  • Ability to self-start, work independently as well as work effectively in a team.
  • Outgoing and communicative by nature.
  • Proven ability to motivate others and foster an energizing, cooperative environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with an attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in using databases and Microsoft Office Professional Suite. 
  • Valid Alabama driver’s license and vehicle insurance.
