Job Description - Development Director III

The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Director of Development III position with the Annapolis Corps under the Potomac Division.

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of the Commanding Officer and the indirect supervision of the Divisional Development Director, the Director of Development creates and oversees the implementation of a strategic approach to increase fundraising results through major gifts, corporate donations, grant solicitation, direct mail, special events, community relations, volunteers, and in-kind resources.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and seven (7) years of experience in a comprehensive development program with progressively responsible experience and demonstrated success; OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

Valid Driver's License (Approved Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Report), required.

Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) designation, preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of The Salvation Army mission, philosophy, culture, protocol, and organization structure.
Knowledge of fundraising management.
Knowledge of moves management systems.
Knowledge of foundation grant writing.
Knowledge of special events planning and management.
Knowledge of the management of volunteer resources.
Proficiency in the use of Fund-raising software, Microsoft Office products to include Databases and Spreadsheets, E-mail, and Internet.
Ability to develop new and unique ways to improve the finances of the organization and to create new opportunities.
Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally, to achieve the goals of the organization.
Ability to speak, listen and write in a clear, thorough, and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques.
Ability to determine strategies to move the organization forward, set goals, create, and implement actions plans, and evaluate the process and results.
Ability to anticipate, understand, and respond to the needs of donors to meet or exceed their expectations within the organizational parameters.
Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problem, and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness.
Ability to positively influence others to achieve results that are in the best interest of the organization.
Ability to assess situations to determine the importance, urgency, and risks, and make clear decisions which are timely and in the best interests of the organization.
Skill in setting priorities, developing a work schedule, monitor progress towards goals, and track details, data, information, and activities.
Skill in Assessing problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem.
Skill in understanding ethical behavior and business practices and ensure own behavior and the behavior of others are consistent with these standards and aligns with the values of the organization.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting, and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.).
Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work may be performed in a normal office environment within a climate-controlled structure. There is little, or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, and dirt.
