The Development Manager plays a key role in supporting exalt’s fundraising and donor engagement efforts. Reporting to the Head of Philanthropy, this position combines grant writing support, prospect research, donor stewardship, event support, database management to ensure the organization's fundraising goals are met.
Responsibilities:
Grant Writing & Prospect Research:
Identify and support drafting/submitting grant applications to foundations, corporations, and government sources.
Conduct prospect research to identify new funding opportunities, including individuals, corporations, and foundations.
Collaborate with team members to manage the annual grants calendar and ensure timely submissions of proposals and reports.
DonorStewardship&Communications:
Support draft/execution of solicitation letters, acknowledgment letters, donor reports, and newsletters.
Support the Head of Philanthropy and CEO in preparing materials for donor meetings and events.
Help with eblasts and social media posts.
Help maintain positive relationships with current and prospective donors, foundations, and corporate sponsors.
EventCoordination:
Assist with planning and execution of donor cultivation events, including exalt’s annual spring gala and corporate engagement events.
Coordinate event logistics, invitations, and follow-up communications.
DatabaseManagement:
Manage donor and funder records using Salesforce, ensuring accuracy and up-to-date information.
Generate custom reports and analyses to track fundraising progress.
AdministrativeSupport:
Organize departmental files and maintain a shared drive.
Manage the department’s calendar, coordinate meetings, and track associated receipts and expenses.
Undertake other duties as assigned to support development goals.
Qualifications Required:
Bachelor’s degree.
2-3 years of fundraising or development experience in the nonprofit sector.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational and time-management skills with attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Passion for youth development and understanding of fundraising’s role in nonprofit success.
Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends for events.
Preferred:
Experience with Salesforce or other donor management systems.
Knowledge of the New York City philanthropic community.
Familiarity with Constant Contact or similar email marketing platforms.
Event planning experience.
Knowledge of the government funding landscape.
Familiarity with the youth justice field.
Compensation:
exalt offers a competitive salary ranging from $65,000 to $75,000, commensurate with experience, along with an attractive benefits package, including health, dental, vision and life insurance, HRA account; 401k matching; commuter and parking flexible spending accounts; paid time off; and more.
