Job Description - DevOps Manager

Vaco is running point with a top client in Scottsdale as they continue to transform and grow their technology group. We're currently on the market for a strong leader to lead and develop the DevOps team. In this role, you will lead the team to streamline the software development and deployment lifecycle. This role involves overseeing the creation and implementation of automated, scalable DevOps processes and solutions, ensuring high availability, and fostering innovation in automation strategies. The successful candidate will collaborate with software development, IT operations, and security teams to improve the CI/CD pipeline efficiency and implement cloud-native solutions across the organization. Our client is currently undergoing a major transformation and this position will play a key role in this key program. What you'll do Cloud Infrastructure Optimization: Lead the migration of key applications to a cloud-native architecture, reviewing and auditing spend to ensure cost savings while enhancing scalability and security within the first nine months.
Team Leadership and Development: Build and mentor a high-performing DevOps team. Establish a comprehensive development plan for each team member, focusing on skill enhancement and career growth.
Own Agile DevOps: Design, develop, test, and release of new capabilities and post-production support .
Provide Thought Leadership: Coach the organization on SREs principles: automation, visibility improvements, self-healing, high availability/scalability, and root cause analysis.
Conduct an Operational Audit: Within the first 60 days, evaluate the existing DevOps practices and infrastructure to identify areas for immediate improvement.
Implement a 30-60-90 Day Action Plan: Develop and execute a strategic plan focusing on quick wins in automation and deployment efficiency while laying the groundwork for long-term initiatives.
Enhance Collaboration: Foster a culture of continuous feedback and collaboration between the DevOps, development, and IT operations teams to ensure alignment with business objectives.
Ensure Best Practices: Champion the DevSecOps best practices, including threat modeling, penetration testing, vulnerability scanning, security monitoring/incident response enablement, to ensure privacy and
security and comply with regulations.
Lead Strategic Projects : Oversee the implementation of key projects, such as the introduction of containerization with Kubernetes and the adoption of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices.
Drive Change Management: Navigate the complexities of integrating new DevOps technologies within a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Adapting to rapidly changing priorities, managing cross-functional team expectations, and advocating for DevOps best practices across all levels of the organization are critical for success.
What you have accomplished Achieved Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering, or related field.
Technical Proficiency and Innovation: Deep understanding and hands-on experience in a range of Cloud, DevOps and monitoring tools and technologies (e.g., AWS Services, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Jenkins, New Relic, Dynatrace). Demonstrated ability to leverage technology to automate processes, improve efficiency, and solve complex problems.
Strategic Planning and Execution: Experience in developing and executing strategic plans that align DevOps initiatives with business objectives, including cloud adoption, infrastructure as code (IaC), and continuous integration and delivery pipelines.
Demonstrated Leadership in DevOps Transformation: A proven five year minimum record of leading and mentoring a DevOps team towards the successful adoption of DevOps practices, achieving significant improvements in CI/CD processes, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and automation.
Operational Excellence: Track record of enhancing system reliability and performance, reducing downtime, and implementing monitoring and alerting tools to proactively address issues.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Strong ability to work collaboratively with software engineering, IT operations, and security teams to ensure a seamless, secure, and efficient software development lifecycle.
Change Management and Scalability: Experience in leading change management initiatives to adopt new technologies and processes, with a focus on scalability and the ability to support growth
Metrics-Driven Management: Ability to define, measure, and track key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to assess the effectiveness of DevOps practices and make data-driven decisions.
Budget and Resource Optimization: Demonstrated ability to understand budgets, forecast resource needs, and optimize spending to achieve maximum value from investments in DevOps tools and resources.
Continuous Learning and Adaptability: Commitment to continuous learning, staying abreast of industry trends and best practices in DevOps, and adapting strategies to incorporate new technologies and methodologies.
