GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Responsible for oversight/performing DEXA procedures to assist in the diagnosis of disease.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Obtains essential information from patients, medical records and previous scans for clinical correlation: instructs patients about the proper physiological requirements for the procedure: helps immobilization to perform the scan; knows how to change scanning parameters to improve a scan; obtains DEXA images by scanning the appropriate body part of the patient.
2. Assists in performing life-saving techniques (CPR, first aid) to the patient if necessary.
3. Performs patient care tasks as appropriate; e.g., assists with bedpans, emesis, basins, etc.
4. Requests charts and film folders from the on-line computer program.
5. Oversees all QA/QC procedures in DEXA at both sites.

EDUCATION:

High school diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of one or more years experience in DEXA

REQUIREMENTS:

CPR certificate maintained.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Knowledge of operating PC and accessing applicable programs.
2. Skill in production of sonograms and/or DEXA exams meeting physician expectations.
3. Skill in obtaining information via computer.
4. Ability to effectively care for patients and families across all points of the adult/adolescent Continuum, including physiological care, psychosocial care, education, safety and appropriate criteria.
5. Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with interdepartmental personnel.

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Varied settings including exam rooms, laboratory, darkroom. Sometimes works in close quarters. Exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, ionizing radiation and other conditions common to radiology setting.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:

Combination of walking, bending, reaching, lifting transferring activities. Must be able to use correct body mechanics to assist patients appropriately, Occasional stress from multiple requests.
