A leading auction house in New York City is seeking a knowledgeable and driven Graduate Gemologist, or similar, to join our fast-paced and collaborative team. This full-time, in-house role plays a key part in preparing diamonds and jewelry for our monthly auctions. We're looking for a proactive, detail-oriented professional who thrives in a team environment and is passionate about diamonds, jewelry, and auction operations.
Position Overview:
Reporting to the Processing Team Manager, the Processing Associate will support the intake, evaluation, and preparation of inventory for our Melee, Single Stone, and Jewelry Auctions. The ideal candidate is a hands-on gemologist with strong organizational skills and a client-first mindset.
Key Responsibilities:
Receive and process incoming diamond and jewelry inventory for upcoming auctions
Maintain tracking systems for all incoming and outgoing merchandise
Assist in catalog creation and ensure accurate data entry of all submission details
Coordinate with the Trade Manager on auction logistics and preparation
Conduct preliminary gemological assessments, including color and clarity grading, diamond testing, Sarin measurements, and treatment checks
Recommend stones for third-party certification when appropriate
Coordinate shipments to and from clients before and after auctions
Support jewelry intake and perform basic quality control checks
Ensure all client charges are properly tracked and documented
Deliver professional and courteous service to all clients and trading partners
Qualifications:
Graduate Gemologist (GG) preferred; Graduate Diamonds and Accredited Jewelry Professional (AJP) designations also considered
Proficiency in grading loose diamonds (color and clarity)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Able to manage multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment
Independent, dependable, and collaborative team player with a positive attitude
