Diesel Mechanic

Are you an experienced Diesel Mechanic ready to take on a hands-on, high-impact role? Paper Retriever of Texas is looking for a skilled and dependable Heavy-Duty Diesel Mechanic to help keep our fleet running safely and efficiently. You'll play a key part in preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on tractors and trailers—all while supporting drivers, operations, and safety teams to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.

What You’ll Do

• Perform preventative maintenance and general repairs on Class 8 trucks and trailers to meet company and DOT standards.
• Diagnose and repair issues including, but not limited to: engines, transmissions, electrical systems, brakes, A/C, suspensions, driveline, and trailer components.
• Troubleshoot onboard equipment like Rand McNally systems, tachometers, power dividers, and more.
• Conduct trailer repairs on doors, panels, and floors.
• Complete welding tasks when needed.
• Communicate clearly with drivers, driver managers, and shop personnel to understand and address issues quickly and thoroughly.
• Maintain accurate work orders, inventory logs, and documentation through our internal systems.
• Ensure a clean, safe, and compliant work environment.
• Support compliance with PM schedules and DOT inspections.
• Participate in continuous improvement efforts and team goals.

Requirements

What You Bring

• Certification from a technical school or trade program in diesel mechanics or a related field.
• Minimum of 1 year of hands-on experience with heavy-duty diesel trucks and trailers.
• Strong welding skills and ability to work with different materials.
• Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred but not required).
• Working knowledge of DOT regulations and safety standards.
• Ability to work safely in a fast-paced environment, indoors and outdoors, in all weather.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Sound judgment and the ability to prioritize repairs effectively.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and heavy equipment
• Familiarity with diagnostic tools and software

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift 100 lbs occasionally, 50 lbs frequently, and 20 lbs constantly.
• Work involves walking, kneeling, standing, climbing, and working in tight or elevated spaces.
• Exposure to outdoor elements, heavy machinery, noise, and potentially hazardous materials.
