Diesel Mechanic

JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, maintains gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles by completing preventive maintenance schedules; removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems; making adjustments and alignments; conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Do routine maintenance, such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and components
2. Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, transmissions, engines, and other parts of vehicles
3. Dismantle heavy equipment or machinery
4. Repair or replace malfunctioning components, parts, and other mechanical or electrical equipment
5. Test drive vehicles to diagnose malfunctions
6. Maintain vehicle records by annotating services and repairs

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:  

•  Knowledge of medium and heavy duty diesel and gasoline trucks and trailers
• Knowledge of tools, equipment, materials, methods, and practices of engine repair, mechanical and electrical systems, and maintenance.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma or GED
• Licenses: Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License preferred
• Certifications: ASE Certifications preferred
