Job Description - Diesel Mechanic

Position Title: Certified Diesel Mechanic

Position Summary
A well-established industrial operation is seeking experienced Certified Diesel Mechanics to support the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of heavy mobile and stationary equipment. This role is critical to ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operations in a demanding production environment. Ideal candidates are hands-on problem solvers who take pride in high-quality workmanship and thrive in physically rigorous settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair, rebuild, and maintain a wide range of heavy equipment, including loaders, haul trucks, conveyors, cranes, bulldozers, pumps, and related machinery
  • Inspect and operate equipment to identify defects; disassemble and reassemble components using appropriate tools and lifting devices
  • Evaluate components for wear or damage and perform repairs or replacements as needed
  • Perform welding and fabrication on structural components when required
  • Execute preventive maintenance tasks, including lubrication, fluid checks, and system inspections
  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and electrical systems with a high degree of accuracy
  • Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and drawings
  • Utilize diagnostic and testing equipment to identify and resolve equipment issues
  • Source replacement parts and complete installations efficiently
  • Maintain accurate service records, work logs, and required documentation
  • Promote and maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
  • Follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements; remain alert to hazards and changing conditions
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding equipment status and repair needs
  • Support cross-functional tasks and assist with additional assignments as needed
  • Provide guidance and training to junior team members when applicable

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Certified Diesel Mechanic (or equivalent technical certification) required
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance within an industrial environment
  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
  • Proven ability to diagnose and repair complex equipment issues to OEM standards
  • Experience with a variety of heavy equipment and industrial machinery
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and lifting equipment
  • Basic computer skills, including familiarity with standard business software
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
  • Reliable, safety-focused, and team-oriented work ethic
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures and outdoor settings
  • Ability to lift and carry 50+ pounds on a regular basis
  • Must be able to comply with all personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements

INTERNAL NOTES:

Experience with dozers, loaders, excavators, and other heavy equipment CAT-certified mechanics highly preferred

Diesel Mechanic – Key Requirements & Details- 5 openings!

  • Shift & Schedule:
  • Day: 6 AM – 4 PM (OT available)
  • Night: 8 PM – 6 AM (OT available, self-starter required)
  • Rotating Saturdays: Half team every other Saturday (6 days one week, 5 days the next)
  • Experience & Skills:
  • 5+ years of advanced diesel/heavy equipment mechanic experience
  • CAT certification is top tier but not required, line boring a plus
  • Certification required: Diesel mechanic, heavy mechanic, or CAT
  • Hydraulic systems repair and work experience required
  • Arc/MIG welding experience is a plus (arc welding highly preferred, NOT TIG)
  • Experience repairing/troubleshooting/etc. with dozers, loaders, excavators, dump trucks
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment breakdowns, clear codes, and perform full repairs
  • Knowledge of Tier 4 engines and DPF systems
  • Underground welding experience a plus
  • Note: No fleet truck mechanics
  • Other Requirements:
  • Next starting class: (background check & drug screening required in advance- which can take up to 2 weeks)
  • Openings & Compensation:
  • 5 openings
  • Pay: $32.30/hr (Mechanic), $35.30/hr (Master Mechanic with certification)

This is not someone who changes tires, oil, etc. these are full on repair mechanics. 5+ years of experience.
