Job Description
Primary Accountabilities:The Diesel Technician—Level A is responsible for independently diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines and related systems in heavy-duty vehicles and equipment. This role requires extensive mechanical knowledge and diagnostic proficiency. This position encompasses four key areas with responsibilities pertaining to each.
1. Advanced Diagnostics
Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using advanced diagnostic tools and software
Troubleshoot complex engine problems, emissions issues, and driveline malfunctions.
Examine vehicles to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
Repair and Maintenance
Perform major engine overhauls, transmission rebuilds, brake system repairs, and component replacements.
Repair or replace faulty parts, such as engine components, fuel systems, and electrical systems.
Conduct scheduled maintenance and inspections to ensure equipment reliability and compliance with safety standards.
Assist with service calls and roadside repairs for customers as needed.
Documentation and Reporting
Accurately document diagnostics, repairs performed, and parts used.
Proactively communicate with the parts department to obtain needed parts for repair completion
Communicate findings and repair recommendations to service managers and customers when required.
Shop Operations
Maintain a clean and safe work area
Properly use and maintain tools, diagnostic equipment, and personal protective gear.
Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED certificate.
Valid Driver’s License.
Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience as a technician or related work.
Ability to multitask.
Ability to communicate clearly and efficiently.
Proficiency in MS Office.
Ability to understand verbal and written instructions.
Ability to follow health and safety regulations.
Excellent mathematical and problem-solving skills.
Physical Demands:
Ability to stand, lift, carry, push, pull, balance, stoop, reach, handle, talk, hear, see, grasp, move head and neck and movement across mid-line.
Ability to lift/carry up to seventy-five (75) pounds
Finger dexterity, manual dexterity, alertness, precision, motor coordination, auditory discrimination and tactile discrimination.
Work Environment:
Work conducted mostly on the shop floor with vehicles and equipment.
Noise level is usually moderate to loud.
