Job Description - Dietary Aid/Cook

Description

The Cook/Dietary Aide is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious and appetizing meals to residents in a skilled nursing facility, adhering to all sanitation, safety, and dietary guidelines. This role also assists with various kitchen duties, including food preparation, cleaning, and stocking, ensuring a positive dining experience for residents. 

Responsibilities:

Cooking Duties 

  • Prepare and cook meals according to planned menus, recipes, and resident dietary restrictions (e.g., pureed, low sodium, diabetic). 
  • Ensure food is prepared and served at appropriate temperatures. 
  • Monitor food quality, taste, and presentation. 
  • Adhere to all food safety and sanitation regulations (e.g., HACCP, local health codes). 
  • Manage inventory of food and supplies, reporting needs to the supervisor. 
  • Operate and maintain kitchen equipment safely and efficiently. 

Dietary Aide Duties 

  • Assist in setting up and serving meals in the dining room or to resident rooms. 
  • Provide assistance to residents during meal times as needed. 
  • Clear tables and transport dishes to the dishwashing area. 
  • Wash dishes, pots, pans, and utensils. 
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen surfaces, equipment, and dining areas. 
  • Stock food items, supplies, and condiments. 
  • Assist with receiving and storing deliveries. 
  • Record food temperatures and other pertinent data as required. 
  • Communicate resident feedback regarding meals to the dietary supervisor. 

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience as a cook or dietary aide, preferably in a healthcare or long-term care setting. 
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations. 
  • Ability to follow recipes and dietary guidelines accurately. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift, bend, and carry supplies as needed. 
  • Compassionate and patient demeanor. 
  • Prefer previous dietary experience in medical setting but willing and able to to train

Working Conditions 

  • Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, as well as various food allergens. 
  • Requires standing, walking, bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and pushing/pulling carts. 
  • Adherence to strict hygiene and safety protocols is mandatory.

Schedule:

  • Day and Evenings
  • 7 Days a Week
