Job Description - Dietary Technician

Dietary Technician


This role offers nutrition services and support for EHS/HS classrooms in the areas of food preparation, including on-site cooking, storage, serving, cleanup, and site sanitation, under the supervision of the Health & Nutrition Coordinator. This role entails helping to maintain a culture of safety and positive reinforcement with continuity of care, which involves active supervisory techniques and promotes parent, family, and community involvement in every facet of the program. This role is Non Exempt and reports to the Center Manager.


Tasks and Obligations


This role ensures center compliance by adhering to state licensing standards, Nutrition Performance Standards, and Agency Policy and Procedures. Participate in meal preparation by preparing breakfast, lunch, and snacks for Head Start and Early Head Start students and serving prepared foods in compliance with the Health & Nutrition Coordinator's instructions


The Dietary Technician is responsible for keeping food and supplies in good condition making sure the equipment and food service area are compliant with health regulations. sending the Transportation & Inventory Manager an inventory checklist and adhering to all menus in order to meet the needs of every kid, including those with food allergies and/or impairments.


The Dietary Technician works with the center manager and the educational team to create strategies for assisting kids in comprehending the connection between food and good eating practices and will assist with staff and parent training as requested. The Dietary Technician will ensure all monthly Nutrition (CACFP) Reports are correct and delivered to the Center Manager within the specified timeframe. The Dietary Technician is responsible for attending parental meetings, workshops, in-service training, staff empowerment week, and meetings to improve job performance, and any extra tasks that the Head Start Director or immediate supervisor deems essential.


Compliance and Reporting


The Dietary Technician is responsible for ensuring adherence to North Carolina Child Care Rules and Regulations, Administration for Children and Families Performance Standards, and Agency Policy and Procedures. The Dietary Technician will create and oversee services that guarantee program quality and adherence to Head Start Performance Standards. The Dietary Technician is responsible for promptly notifying the Center Manager, immediate supervisor, and/or Head Start Program Director of any child abuse or neglect (*), whether it is observed or discovered. The Dietary Technician is responsible for upholding training hours in accordance with the Division of Child Development and Day Care Licensing regulations through Agency all staff empowerment week and in-service, workshops, conferences, etc. (as appropriate to position). In this role, the Dietary Technician will continuously strive to enhance operations, optimize workflows, and collaborate to deliver seamless, high-quality customer service.


Environmental Health and Safety


The Dietary Technician will operate and maintain a clean, safe, healthy, and productive workplace by following NC sanitation regulations, which include cleaning floors, covering garbage cans, maintaining water temperature, and sanitizing equipment. The Dietary Technician will demonstrate the ability to understand how to properly mix sanitation solutions, and knowledge of the center's safety regulations (fire inspections, fire drills, fire extinguisher inspections, and tornado drills) adhering to the emergency preparedness plan and protocols


Eligibility, Recruitment, Selection, Enrollment, and Attendance (ERSEA)


The Dietary Technician will support recruitment strategies in collaboration with the center to ensure complete enrollment.


Parent and Community Engagement


The Dietary Technician will assist the center's recruitment efforts and planning by cooperating with the Center Manager and the Family Development Specialist.


Ethical and Professional Obligations


The Dietary Technician will follow the professional development plan which includes renewing annual credentials (*which may be necessary for continuing employment in this job), adhering to all federal, state, and agency regulations, and the ability to attend conferences and training sessions outside of town


Qualifications


Minimum requirements include a high school degree (or its equivalent), two years of food preparation experience, and a ServSafe certification. Strong oral and written communication skills, as well as practical understanding of Head Start Performance Standards and Child Nutrition Guidelines.
