The Director 1 of Health and Medical Systems and Compliance position plays a vital role in oversight of health and medical programs and campus nursing support at the district-level, facilitating collaboration, coordination, and alignment between centralized nursing support, campus nursing support, health and medical services partners, and other district health and medical service support teams. This role involves developing strategic plans and implementing district health and safety initiatives to ensure the highest standards of campus and district health initiative implementation and compliance with all relevant state, local, and national health regulations and policies.
1. Serve as a liaison between district and campus nursing staff to ensure effective communication, collaboration, and coordination of care to achieve common goals supporting student health and wellness.
2. Collaborate with school administrators, district administrators, health professionals, and community health partners to plan and implement an effective school health and campus nursing program that meets the strategic aims of the district and effectively addresses the diverse health and wellness needs of the students we serve.
3. Deliver professional development sessions to foster continuous improvement of district-level and campus-level nursing support and district health and safety practices ensuring that each campus' nursing support is effective and that the district health program promotes and actively supports community health best practices.
4. Develops and maintains policies and processes in alignment with relevant health and safety regulations, laws, school nursing, community health, and educational best practices to support effective and efficient systems and processes for campus and district-level nursing support.
5. Lead and participate in special projects related to health and medical services initiatives such as but not limited to vaccination, increasing access to vision and hearing resources for students and families, ensuring district and campus staff preparedness to administer emergency aid, etc.
6. Data analysis and reporting: supports senior and executive leadership with data collection, reporting, and analysis to track all key performance metrics tied to health and medical services initiatives and to track campus and district compliance with relevant state and local statutes and school nursing and community health best practice.

Bachelor's Degree
5 years of community health or nursing experience required.

Supervision received typically consists of providing direction on the more complex projects and new job duties and priorities.

Decisions are made with greater freedom and discretion, including recommendations that are subject to approval on matters that may affect multiple departments across HISD. Job is frequently expected to recommend new solutions to problems, to improve existing methods/procedures/services and generate new ideas. May also review decisions made by other individuals on more routine matters.
Decisions have moderate impact on the facility/department or division, causing increased satisfaction or dissatisfaction; producing efficiencies or delays; promoting or inhibiting personal intellectual or professional development; and/or contributing to financial gain or expense. Errors may be serious, usually not subject to direct verification or check, causing losses such as improper cost calculations, overpayment or improper utilization of labor, materials, or equipment. Effect is usually confined to the organization itself and is short term.
Collaborate and solve problems - work with others to resolve problems, clarify, or interpret complex information/policies, and provide initial screening/negotiations without approval authority. Interactions are typically with customers, senior level professional staff, and managers.
Leads others in the resolution of highly sensitive and confidential issues on behalf of the department. Acts as a trusted advisor and becomes involved in the customer's decision-making process including presenting alternatives and information and applying persuasion and negotiation skills in the resolution of problems. Monitors customer service standards.
Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements.
