Location: Food Services Administration \n\nDepartment: Nutri Services - Food Service \n\nArea:North \n\nContract Months:12 \n\nSalary Range: $130,000.00 \u2013 $155,000.00 \n\nAcademic Year: 26-27 \n\n## JOB SUMMARY\n\nThe Director of Human Resources \u2013 Nutrition Services provides strategic and operational human resources support for the school district\u2019s Nutrition Services Department. This position partners closely with Nutrition leadership to recruit, retain, develop, and support a large, diverse workforce responsible for delivering compliant and high quality meal programs to students. Director 1 ensures HR practices align with federal, state, and local regulations governing both public education employment and child nutrition programs, while supporting operational continuity, workforce stability, and organizational effectiveness.\n\n## MAJOR DUTIES \u0026 RESPONSIBILITIES\n\nList most important duties first \n1\\. Serve as the primary Human Resources advisor to the Nutrition Services Department. \n2\\. Acts as a strategic partner in understanding the goals and objectives for Nutrition Services and works toward providing effective human resource solutions. \n3\\. Advises Nutrition Services Leadership and managers through complex talent management issues and collaborates with legal and professional standards staff as needed. \n4\\. Serves as a general subject matter expert in multiple human resource areas and collaborates with specialized subject matter experts within the core Human Resources department to provide Nutrition Services department managers with direction, guidance, coaching, training, and support. \n5\\. Collaborate with the HRIS department to provide comprehensive human capital data and data analytical reports to Nutrition Services Leadership and managers to inform and facilitate effective position and personnel management decision making. \n6\\. Collaborates with the Finance department staff on position management, and participates in year-round school and department budget meetings, including during the annual budget development process. \n7\\. Collaborates with Talent Acquisition department staff in the recruitment of school and/or department staff through participation in job fairs and other related recruitment events. \n\n## MAJOR DUTIES \u0026 RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED\n\n8\\. Establishes and maintains a strong, positive working relationship with the Nutrition Services Unit to ensure satisfaction with the human resource support provided. \n9\\. Provides consistent, timely, effective communication to Nutrition Services Management to ensure consistent application of policies, procedures, processes, and practices of human resource functions. \n10\\. Keeps abreast of changes in HISD policies and procedures as they relate to delivering quality human resource services. \n11\\. Support strategies to improve recruitment, retention, attendance, and employee engagement within the Child Nutrition workforce. \n12\\. Travels to and from schools, departments, and central office to facilitate effective interpersonal communication, training, and in-person support. \n13\\. Other duties as assigned. (Note: No additional information is needed in this text box.)\n\n## EDUCATION\n\nCandidate must meet one of the work experience requirements listed below.*\n\n3 years of minimum experience required in one or more human resource functional areas, if candidate holds a bachelor\u2019s degree related to the fields listed in the education section above.\n\n4 years of minimum experience required in one or more human resource functional areas, if candidate holds a bachelor\u2019s degree not related to the fields listed in the education section above.\n\n## WORK EXPERIENCE\n\nMinimum of 3 years of proven experience in a leadership role, preferably within a similar industry or organization.\n\n## SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION\n\nIntermediate or advanced skills in the use of the Windows environment and applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and TEAMS.\n\nIntermediate or advanced skills of HR Information Systems, SAP (preferred), Oracle, applicant tracking systems, SharePoint, databases, Google docs.\n\nAbility to objectively analyze data and make recommendations on a variety of issues. \nStrong strategic thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to translate vision into actionable plans. \nDemonstrated track record of successfully leading and managing teams, fostering a high-performance culture. \nExcellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence stakeholders at all levels. \nStrong financial acumen, with experience in budget planning, financial management, and resource allocation. \nProven ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives that drive organizational growth and impact. \nExceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with the capacity to navigate complex challenges. \nDemonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders. \nStrong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. \nKnowledge of relevant industry regulations, compliance standards, and best practices. \nAbility to adapt to change and lead teams through organizational transitions. \nCommitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion principles and practices. \nStrong ethical standards and integrity in decision-making.\n\nOffice equipment (e.g., computer, laptop, copier). \nVehicles (automobile)\n\n## LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES\n\nWork Leadership. Regularly provides project management or team leadership to a group of two or more employees but does not have formal supervisory responsibility. Leading and directing is restricted to monitoring work and providing guidance on escalated issues. Most of work time is spent performing many of the same duties they are leading.\n\n## WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT\n\nWork is substantially complex, varied and regularly requires the selection and application of technical and detailed guidelines. Independent judgment is required to identify, select, and apply the most appropriate methods as well as interpret precedent. Position regularly makes recommendations to management on areas of significance to the department. Supervision received typically consists of providing directions on the more complex projects and new job duties and priorities.\n\n## BUDGET AUTHORITY\n\nMay provide feedback on resources needed during the budget development process. \nMay participate in a group plan and/or budget development committee.\n\n## PROBLEM SOLVING\n\nDecisions are made with greater freedom and discretion, including recommendations that are subject to approval on matters that may affect multiple departments across HISD. Job is frequently expected to recommend new solutions to problems, to improve existing methods/procedures/services and generate new ideas. May also review decisions made by other individuals on more routine matters. \n\n## IMPACT OF DECISIONS\n\nDecisions have considerable impact to multiple divisions or the organization causing risks or improvements to relationships, significant efficiencies, or delays in operations, and/or significant financial gains or expenses. Errors are serious and difficult to discover, normally involve decisions not subject to detailed review and will result in excessive costs and/or significant project delays.\n\n## COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS\n\nCollaborate and solve problems - work with others to resolve problems, clarify, or interpret complex information/policies, and provide initial screening/negotiations without approval authority. Interactions are typically with customers, senior level professional staff, and managers.\n\n## CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS\n\nLeads others in the resolution of highly sensitive and confidential issues on behalf of the department. Acts as a trusted advisor and becomes involved in the customer\u0027s decision-making process including presenting alternatives and information and applying persuasion and negotiation skills in the resolution of problems.
