The primary focus of this role is to provide strategic direction and oversee the operations, alignment and completeness of Curriculum Design deliverables for Math grades Kinder through 5th grade /lessons and activities). The Director 2 plays a critical role in driving organizational success by setting goals, developing strategies, and ensuring effective implementation of curriculum design aligned to NES (New Education System) model. This position requires strong leadership skills, a strategic mindset, and the ability to give critical feedback.
1. NES Curriculum Development Management: Lead and manage the process for designing curriculum for assigned content area(s) and grade level band(s), ensuring alignment with NES model and Houston ISD's educational objectives. This includes slides, student activities, assessments, and differentiated assignments.
2. Curriculum Evaluation: Evaluate curriculum through a sensitivity lens to ensure grade-level appropriateness and cultural relevance.
3. Lead and Facilitate Brain Trusts (PLC): Prepare and facilitate collaborative brain trust sessions to gather insights, share expertise, and foster innovation in curriculum design and instructional strategies to ensure alignment, correctness and clarity of each lesson document.
4. Manage Performance: Create working improvement plans for Curriculum Writer ls in conjunction with Curriculum Writer 2s to see growth in delive1y of on-time, completed, high quality instruction through crucial conversations and direct oversight of deliverables received.
5. Curriculum Scope and Sequence: Create scopes and sequence utilizing high quality instructional research and strategies. Create and provide Lesson Objectives to Designers in a sequential order.
6. Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree
At least 3 years working as a teacher or in the district/central office of a large urban school district.

Senior Management. Manages a department or multiple major disciplines, often through subordinate management. Regularly manages staff in the completion of large-scale projects or a very closely related set of projects/initiatives often spanning multiple disciplines. Receives strategies and broad departmental objectives from senior leadership; establishes operational objectives and work plans; delegates assignments to subordinate management and staff. Allocates resources according to priorities and serves as the primary decision maker regarding hiring, performance, and budget.
Work is substantially complex, varied and regularly requires the selection and application of technical and detailed guidelines. Independent judgment is required to identify, select, and apply the most appropriate methods as well as interpret precedent. Position regularly makes recommendations to management on areas of significance to the department. Supervision received typically consists of providing directions on the more complex projects and new job duties and priorities.
Compiles and organizes data and figures.
Decisions are made with greater freedom and discretion, including recommendations that are subject to approval on matters that may affect multiple departments across HISD. Job is frequently expected to recommend new solutions to problems, to improve existing methods/procedures/services and generate new ideas. May also review decisions made by other individuals on more routine matters.
Decisions have considerable impact to multiple divisions or the organization causing risks or improvements to relationships, significant efficiencies, or delays in operations, and/or significant financial gains or expenses. Errors are serious and difficult to discover, normally involve decisions not subject to detailed review and will result in excessive costs and/or significant project delays.
Negotiate and influence - interprets department strategies and services, resolve conflicts, influences outcomes on matters of significance for the division, conducts final negotiations and coordinates approvals/decision making below the executive level. Interactions are typically with customers and Top Management.
Anticipates customer needs, identifies, and champions opportunities for the development and implementation of new services and methods to meet or exceed customer needs. Establishes customer service standards and feedback mechanisms across departments.
Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements.
