The

Director Business Development and Strategic Planning

will play a key role in accelerating organic and inorganic growth and our presence in the HVACR industry, and will be responsible for the overall direction and management of all business development and strategic planning activities for the Copeland Electronics and Controls business unit.
Reporting to the President of the Electronics & Controls business unit, this individual will have significant exposure to the executive team and play a substantial role in leading and coordinating activities. This person will also work closely with Copeland functions and executives including the Senior VP of Strategy, Mergers & Acquisition and will be the key voice within the business unit to align on strategy, product, market, and competitor knowledge. The position will be responsible for ensuring that the company’s strategy incorporates a unique and compelling value proposition for its customers and ensure profitable growth. This individual will be hands-on, strategic, and business savvy with a track record of success who thrives in a results and performance-based culture and experience in market research, competitive intelligence gathering, business development and financial modeling. They will additionally bring capabilities in forecasting and new market development.

As the DIRECTOR, BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AND STRATEGIC PLANNING, YOU WILL:
Identify, analyze, cultivate and execute acquisition opportunities and working list of target companies
Complete analysis of potential targets including strategic rationale, market analysis, competitors, and financial modeling
Project manage front-end M&A pipeline activities to drive opportunity progress
Provide analysis and support for portfolio optimization activities
Provide support, leadership, and creation of materials required for various strategic initiatives as directed by the President and executive management
Lead portfolio optimization activities, providing project management capabilities to ensure successful scoping, sale, and delivery of any divestitures
Lead the strategic planning process within the Electronics and Controls business unit
Work closely with the Copeland enterprise business development and planning team and other business units within Copeland to identify opportunities in both core and adjacent markets
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCES & SKILLS:
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, engineering, or a related field
7+ years experience in business development, strategic planning or related field
Self-starter mentality: will take a hands-on approach that garners the respect of the organization
Dynamic and strategic thinker with ability to execute objectives
Keen business judgment, focus, ability to see the “big picture” and to prioritize
Great influence, partnering, and collaboration skills
High integrity, respect and honesty – a true team player
Legal Authorization to work in the United States - Sponsorship will not be provided for this role
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCES & SKILLS
MBA
Front-end funnel M&A experience: sourcing, cultivation, due diligence practitioner
A solid understanding of HVACR markets, products, and competitors
P&L experience
Experience in process development and management
Performance and metric-oriented; Comfortable at setting goals and meeting them

Schedule
We offer the flexibility of a core hour work schedule. Employees can flex their start and stop times given they are working during the core hours of 9:00am - 3:00pm. Our teams work together to ensure their chosen work schedules are supporting our customers. This role has a travel requirement of 25% of its time.
