Position Summary

In the role of Director of Capital Engineering at Empower, you will be at the forefront of our mission to produce innovative medications that help people live healthier, happier lives. You will lead a dynamic team, driving the planning, design, and execution of critical capital projects that include facility expansions, equipment upgrades, and infrastructure improvements. Your expertise will ensure that our facilities are optimized for current and future needs, directly contributing to our vision of expanding access to quality, affordable medication.
As the Director of Capital Engineering, you will develop and implement strategic plans that enhance facility layout, workflow, and capacity. Your leadership in driving Operational Excellence and Overall Equipment Effectiveness initiatives will be crucial in achieving and maintaining efficiency across all production lines. You will manage project budgets, timelines, and resources, ensuring that projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with the highest quality and safety standards.
Collaboration is key in this role. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including operations, engineering, quality, regulatory affairs, and finance, to ensure that all capital projects align with our business objectives and regulatory requirements. Your ability to establish and maintain relationships with external vendors, contractors, and consultants will be essential in supporting project execution and adherence to industry standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

Leads and oversees the capital engineering team in the planning, design, and execution of capital projects, including facility expansions, equipment upgrades, and infrastructure improvements.
Develops and implements strategic plans and initiatives to optimize facility layout, workflow, and capacity to support current and future business needs.
Drives and supports Operational Excellence and Overall Equipment Effectiveness capital project initiatives to achieve a minimum of 80% across all production lines.
Manages project budgets, timelines, and resources to ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget while meeting quality and safety standards.
Actively involved in the site leadership team.
Collaborates with cross-functional teams, including operations, quality assurance, regulatory affairs, and finance, to align capital projects with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
Identifies and implements technology improvement projects.
Establishes and maintains relationships with external vendors, contractors, and consultants to support project execution and ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.
Monitors department performance through key performance indicators and operational metrics to track progress and make data-driven decisions.
Provides leadership, guidance, and mentorship to the capital engineering team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Develops and implements standard operating procedures, policies, and documentation to support project management and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Communicates on department performance to Corporate and Site leadership.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

Strong technical knowledge and expertise in engineering principles, facility design, construction management, and regulatory compliance.
Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams to achieve project goals and objectives.
Proficiency in project management software,

Computer Aided Drafting

(

CAD) software, and other engineering tools and technologies.
Knowledge of regulatory requirements, including

Food and Drug Administration

(

FDA) regulations,

Current Good Manufacturing Practice

(

cGMP) guidelines, and industry standards related to pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities.

Experience and Qualifications

Bachelors / Masters in a Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or Chemical Engineering program. MBA preferred.
Minimum of 15 years of experience in capital project management, engineering, or related field, preferably in the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry.
Minimum 5 years in a senior leadership role.
Proven track record of successfully managing large-scale capital projects from conception through completion, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
6 Sigma Black Belt preferred.
