Location: St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church 202 W. Kronkosky, Boerne, TX 78006
Position Purpose:
The Director of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd will be responsible for developing and managing a parish and school-based pastoral ministry for pre-school and elementary age children per the requirements of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Program (CGS) through CGSUSA.
.
Essential Functions:
· Ensure CGS Program is developed and delivered within the parish and school per the program’s prescribed requirements by pursuing and maintaining personal CGS formation certification.
· Manage CGS formation process for all CGS catechists, ensuring properly trained catechists are delivering faith formation to enrolled children correctly and effectively.
· Schedule qualified catechists and assistants for multiple levels and sessions per week, for the parish and school. Continuously monitor and evaluate effectiveness of CGS program delivery and adjust as necessary.
· Recruit and provide formation training opportunities for new and current catechists for CGS.
· Host ongoing CGS level formations and continual formation opportunities for all catechists.
· Determine Atrium set up and materials, ensuring each is up to date in accordance to CGSUSA.
· Develop format, schedule and conduct catechist with parent meetings.
· Communicate with parents via email, Flocknote, and or social/media regarding Good Shepherd catechesis and activities. Provide parish webmaster all updated information for CGS faith formation on website and in bulleting on a timely basis.
· Develop and manage faith formation ministry budget.
· Recruit, train and supervise a part time assistant to help with the daily operation of the CGS program.
· In conjunction with the Director of EFF, plan and deliver training and administration of Elementary Sacramental Preparation for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist annually for the parish and school.
· Coordinate with Youth Minsters on developing and delivering joint programs within the parish.
· Coordinate and lead special events and Masses involving children of the parish and school. This includes: recruiting and coordinating children for monthly Children’s Mass, family events for key moments in the liturgical calendar and fostering a school environment where students feel connected to the rhythms of the Church.
· Co-lead development, preparation and delivery of Vacation Bible School, as well as Family Catholic Camp.
· Assist the school Principal in developing a strong preschool curriculum, guiding preschool staff and participating in daily opening prayer/Mass.
· Help to create a strong connection between the school and church families to foster unity and a shared sense of purpose.
Education and/or Experience
• Must have minimum Level II certification for CGS and make consistent progression for all levels of certification
• Degree in theology, pastoral ministry, religious education or equivalent preferred
• Minimum five (5) years of leadership experience in diocesan or parish/school ministry to children, CGS preferred.
• Leadership experience should include ministry in multicultural settings
• Incumbent must be up to date on all required safe environment training and background checks, including transportation/MVR.
Required/Essential Skills
• Practicing Catholic with pastoral ministry experience in multicultural context.
• Ability to work flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
• Strong interpersonal and communication ability with particular emphasis on speaking and presentation skills.
• Must have strong leadership ability and personnel management skills.
• Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to assess the needs of parish and school children.
• Ability to provide leadership in a highly multicultural context with diplomacy, respect, and with the goal of providing solution-support to ministry leaders.
• Ability to independently plan, prioritize and organize to meet CGS goals and deadlines.
• Ability to relate to and work with others in a cooperative manner and in a team model.
• Excellent project management and time management skills.
• Operating knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
• Operating knowledge of social media.
