Position Summary

Reporting jointly to the Associate Deans, Academic of each institution, the Director of the Dual JD program will support and coordinate the daily operations and administration of the program with the University of Windsor Faculty of Law.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1.  Program Administration

The Director will support and coordinate the daily operations of the program and work collaboratively with all departments at Detroit Mercy Law (DML) and University of Windsor Law (UW) to ensure the smooth operations of the Dual JD Program. The Director will work with the appropriate personnel at each law school to identify ways to strengthen, enhance, and promote the Dual JD Program. The Director will submit the twice-yearly Reconciliation Report and other reports as requested by the Deans.

2.  Student Services  

 The Director will be responsible for ensuring that all students enrolled in the Dual JD program have knowledge of and access to the student service resources they may require, including but not limited to:  enrollment matters (e.g., registration and financial aid), academic matters (e.g., advising and the Student Handbook), nonacademic student support services (e.g., accessibility services, mental health and wellbeing resources).  

The Director will be the primary advisor on all immigration matters and will be the primary liaison with immigration counsel for the program, including Optional Practical Training and CPT.

3.  Liaison Functions between DML and UW  

The Director will facilitate and improve communication between students, faculty, administrators, and staff of UW and DML regarding topics of mutual interest, opportunities and challenges, and social and community events hosted by UW or DML. Further collaboration is required for orientation and the onboarding process. Lastly, the Director shall assist in convening regular meetings of the Executive Committee and any other committees established by the Executive Committee with the Dual JD program, the Administration and Staff, Management Committee, and Advisory Board as required. At the present time, the Administrator & Staff and Management Committees are not active.

The Director will maintain offices at DML and UW with the expectation the Director will be at DML 60% of the time and at UW 40% of the time.

4.  Support of Admissions and Career Services   

 The Director will support the Deans of enrollment/admissions at DML and WL with recruitment and file review specific to the Dual JD program. The Director will collaborate with the Director of Admissions for the Dual JD program in offering this support. 

The Director will also work with the Career Services Offices at DML and WL to assist both offices in their work with current students and alumni. 

5.  Alumni Outreach and Event Planning 

The Director will be responsible for corresponding with and tracking alumni of the program and maintaining an accurate database of US and Canadian program alumni in conjunction with alumni departments at DML and UW. Specific efforts should be made to increase alumni engagement through panels, events, outreach, and communications. The Director will be responsible for planning and executing program related events, including but not limited to Receptions, a Graduation Celebration, and Orientation, at both DML and UW.

Requirements

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education – A college degree 
  • Experience – Two years to five years (Equivalent combination of education and employment).

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience in higher education, preferably in a law school setting.
  2. Ability to travel.
  3. Ability to work some nights and weekends.

 Physical Requirements

Job may require lifting light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping.  Occasionally lift average weight objects (1 to 10 pounds). 

 Work Environment  

Occasional exposure to objectionable conditions or variations such as those found in variable weather conditions or light industrial settings.

Anticipated Schedule

Monday to Friday 8.00 AM to 5.00 PM Some evenings and weekends are required.
