Job Description - Director, Early Learning Center, (Oak Ridge, TN) Emory Valley Center

Early Learning Center Director

  • Pay: Weekdays $48,900 per year

The Early Learning Center

The Early Learning Center (EVELC) , is a licensed, NAEYC-accredited preschool offering inclusive, high-quality education for children ages six weeks to five years. As part of the Emory Valley Center, EVELC supports children of all abilities through a play-based, developmentally appropriate curriculum that nurtures cognitive, social-emotional, language, and motor skills. The center fosters a responsive, family-centered environment with trained educators and actively encourages parental involvement. With a capacity of 98 children, EVELC is wheelchair accessible and offers services in English, Spanish, and Chinese. The center provides flexible care options, including subsidized programs, sliding scale fees, sibling discounts, and scholarships.

The Emory Valley Center

We are a nonprofit organization located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, that has been serving individuals with developmental disabilities since 1955. It supports children, adults, and families across 16 East Tennessee counties, offering a wide range of services including supported living, day programs, employment assistance, early intervention, family support, and therapies such as speech, occupational, and behavioral health. The center also operates the Emory Valley Early Learning Center, an inclusive preschool licensed by the Department of Human Services. In 2016, Emory Valley Center opened a new facility to expand its services and continue its mission of promoting independence, dignity, and community inclusion for individuals with disabilities.

Responsibilities

The Early Learning Center Director is responsible for providing supervision and support to the EVELC staff. The Director is responsible for ensuring the EVELC provides an inclusive and high-quality early childhood environment characterized by family-centered services. The Director supports the Tennessee Department of Human Services (DHS) licensure regulations. The Director is responsible for supporting the development of EVELC staff and for maintaining high standards of program quality, family centered programming, and a culture of learners.

  • Prepares the annual program calendar for all program, agency and special needs.
  • Ensure the classrooms, routines, and teacher/ student interactions are based on developmentally appropriate practices and in accordance with best practices for children as outlined by DHS.
  • Uphold state, program, and EVC operational and program guidelines in the provision of services, supervision of staff, and ongoing program operations.
  • Complete required training hours as specified by the TN DHS and EVC.
  • Monitors communication sent home to families from the program and classrooms.
  • Ensures confidentiality regarding sensitive material including applicant’s, employees, and children’s right to privacy and protected health information, following Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and HITECH.
  • Assists with the overall planning, operation, interdepartmental coordination and management of EVELC.
  • Oversees Child and Adult Food Program (CAFP) and ensures compliance with all regulations.
  • Maintain Child Record files for all children enrolled in the program.
  • Report all suspected cases of child abuse or neglect to the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services (DCS) and Program Administration.
  • Conducts staff meetings and assists with or holds parent meetings as needed.  May be required to assist in the classrooms.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Children Services.
  • Minimum of an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, or related field; Preference given for Bachelor’s Degree,
  • At least 3 years’ experience working with young children or family services.
  • Experience working in a licensed child care center, familiar with Daycare licensing standards and ability to maintain high scores in licensing evaluations and visits.
  • Experience supervising staff.
  • Adult and child/infant CPR/First Aid, and other required trainings to meet Company and funding source requirements.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and remain calm in a crisis.
  • Ability to interact with a wide range of people and deal tactfully with the public.
  • Ability to encourage positive acceptance and education relative to children with disabilities.
  • Ability to establish a comfortable and supportive relationship with children and their families.
  • Uphold the strictest of confidentiality and follow the guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), HITECH, and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Ability to utilize the PHS system.
