Director, Government Property & Shipping

Job Description - Director, Government Property & Shipping

$165,000 - $200,000 + Bonus & 401K

Cambridge, Massachusetts (Hybrid – 3 days/week, 9/80 schedule)

The Opportunity

This is ownership of a multi-billion dollar government property portfolio at the senior leadership table.

You won't be executing someone else's policy. You'll design the long-term Government Property Management and Shipping/Receiving strategy from the ground up, build the GPM charter and roadmap, and set the vision that the rest of the organization follows. You'll lead the technology conversation too, driving adoption of RFID, asset tracking platforms, and AI-enabled analytics to modernize how property visibility and decision-making work.

You'll report directly into senior leadership, serve as the face of the organization for every audit and inspection, and advise executives on risk, policy, and emerging best practices. This is a director-level seat with real influence over how a defense supply chain organization operates.

Why You'll Love This Role

You'll build and lead a multidisciplinary team, property administrators, shipping/receiving staff, and support personnel, and partner directly with operations, engineering, contracting, finance, and legal to align property strategy with mission-critical objectives.

You'll have the authority to negotiate logistics contracts, manage third-party carrier and freight forwarder performance, and drive continuous improvement initiatives that reduce transit time and transportation spend. Your process improvements will be measured in real cost savings, not just reported on a slide.

Full relocation is provided, and the compensation package includes bonus eligibility and a generous 401K match.

What Your Week Looks Like

Your time will span strategic planning and hands-on leadership:

  • Reviewing government contracts and proposals to ensure a consistent, compliant approach to property management
  • Serving as primary liaison during internal and external audits, developing remediation plans where needed
  • Meeting with program offices to align property support with contractual requirements
  • Overseeing end-to-end shipping and receiving processes for government and company-owned property
  • Managing carrier and freight forwarder selection, qualification, and performance
  • Producing property status reports and briefing senior leadership and oversight bodies
  • Training staff on property management, shipping regulations, and security protocols
  • Some travel to offsite locations and subcontractor facilities

What We're Looking For

Experience & Credentials

  • 15+ years of progressively responsible experience in government property management, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or related field (Master's preferred)
  • Certified Professional Property Administrator (CPPA) or other NPMA-recognized certification required
  • Current, in-scope Secret security clearance required

Technical Expertise

  • Deep working knowledge of FAR, DFARS, DoDIs, MIL standards, and applicable government statutes, including FAR clause 52.245-1 and DFARS 252.245-7003/7005
  • Proficiency with PIEE and DPAS
  • Proficiency with ERP/Asset Management systems and analytics tools
  • IT/Information Systems experience is a plus

Leadership & Business Acumen

  • Demonstrated experience managing multi-billion dollar property portfolios in a federal or defense environment
  • Track record leading government audits, inspections, and corrective action processes
  • Strong financial acumen across budgeting, cost analysis, and contract management
  • Proven ability to influence senior leaders and build high-performing teams

Why Candidates Say Yes

This is a rare director-level opening where the scope is genuinely broad, strategy, technology modernization, audit leadership, and shipping operations all sit under one seat. You're setting policy and driving cultural change, not maintaining someone else's system. Full relocation removes the friction of making the move, and the hybrid 9/80 schedule offers flexibility most defense supply chain roles don't.

Ready to Apply?

If you're ready to take on a portfolio of this scale with the authority to actually shape how it's run, we'd like to talk.
