The collaboration will provide unparalleled opportunities for radiology and other physician specialties to be part of DFCI’s internationally recognized cancer team.

The Director of Interventional Oncology will work jointly with the newly formed Division of Cancer Radiology, as well as the Division of Interventional Radiology and Division of Abdominal Imaging in the Department of Radiology.  The individual will work primarily with the DFCI Disease Center leadership and referring providers to build, lead and grow successful interventional oncology services, including a robust and standardized diagnostic biopsy service and expand the existing well-established therapeutic tumor ablation and embolization clinical programs with the BIDMC Radiology and DFCI Imaging Departments, under the leadership of the Chair of the Department of Imaging at DFCI.  The individual will be expected to support clinical service excellence, develop research in interventional oncology imaging, participate in multidisciplinary collaborations, support education and training in interventional oncology. Candidates should have an established reputation, appropriate publication and research record, and requisite clinical experience in the practice of Interventional Oncology.  Additional expertise in establishing new interventional oncology service lines, leading a cancer-focused interventional clinical trials group, and working with cancer center leadership in developing combination therapy trials and supporting research biopsies would be welcome.

The BIDMC Interventional Radiology Division has 12 full-time faculty members, ACGME-accredited IR/DR Integrated and Independent Residency programs, and 7 advanced practitioners. Hospital-based facilities span two adjacent campuses and include 4 primary multi-modality advanced angiography suites (with intra-procedural CT capabilities and in-room ultrasound), 3 additional fluoroscopy rooms, procedural CT suites, and a shared bi-plane angiography suite. Additionally, the section staffs an off-site outpatient vein center, an outpatient dialysis access care center, has initiated IR services at two community affiliate hospitals, and interprets diagnostic studies from an ICAVL-accredited vascular lab.  The practice has a robust formal inpatient consult service and outpatient clinic.  The division has close collaborative relationships with referring services and staffs several multidisciplinary conferences per week and are embedded in several multispecialty cancer clinics.

Candidates eligible for appointment to the faculty of Harvard Medical School at Associate Professor level are preferred but will consider candidates eligible for appointment at the Assistant Professor level based on experience.

  • MD from an accredited medical school

  • Board-certified or eligible in Diagnostic Radiology

  • A valid MA medical license or the ability to obtain one
